11 Wrinkly Dog Breeds So Smushy To Die For

Admin

I won’t take your time. I know you’re here to see which wrinkly dog breeds exist.

I won’t only show you which are wrinkly dog breeds… I’ll show you why they’re so special, and prove once and for all that wrinkles can be cute.

I mean, come on! Look at those pawdorable, smushy faces! Aren’t they to die for or what?

1. Pug

As one of the most popular wrinkly dog breeds, Pugs have wrinkles all over their little body, including their face. But, these dogs aren’t wrinkly just because. Pugs are brachycephalic dogs, and as such, their wrinkly face with a flat nose brings them lots of issues.

Wrinkles are cute, but in a moderate amount. Being brachycephalic means a dog will suffer from difficulty breathing, and will be prone to airway infections.

On another note, the wrinkles (or the skin folds) are a terrific ground for bacteria development. That’s why Pugs have so many skin problems.

But, that’s not a reason not to like Pugs because if you ask Doug, the Pug, and his 3.7 million followers, Pugs are the greatest!

2. French Bulldog

Raise your paw if you’d like to have a French Bulldog as your loyal sidekick! Many people would because Frenchies are just pawesome.

These little clowns of the canine world are the ray of sunshine we all need because these days are dark and difficult. Frenchies are super friendly, and never aggressive. They’re terrific family pets and companions you can leave with your kids.

What’s so great about Frenchies is that they’re great for cities, and they don’t take up much space. These are very adaptable dogs, and they enjoy human companionship in every form.

Personally, I love Frenchies because they’re so versatile when it comes to coat color. There’s a Frenchie coat color for everyone’s taste.

One of the rising stars of the canine world is another canine influencer – sir Charles Barkley, the Frenchie, so make sure you check him out!

3. Shar Pei

Speaking of really wrinkly dog breeds…

We can’t forget about Shar Pei dogs. I mean, they’re as wrinkly as it gets!

These wrinkly cuddly bears are quite an old dog breed, originally from ancient China. And, yes – they have always been this wrinkly.

Shar Pei dogs have been hunting and herding dogs, usually serving their farmers. As you can see, they weren’t companion pups. They were hardworking and determined.

However, today’s Shar Peis are more of companions than they are working dogs. This has plumped up their price significantly. Shar Peis are pricey dogs, but every wrinkly fold on their chubby body is absolutely worth it!

4. English Bulldog

We have French Bulldogs, so we can’t forget about their English companions. As a matter of fact, the English Bulldog has been around longer than the French Bulldog. This wrinkly dog breed dates back to the 13th century.

Back then, English Bulldogs were mighty and muscular dogs used to bait bulls. Luckily, their role throughout history has changed. English Bulldogs are now guardians, loyal friends, and watchdogs.

Some people may not like them for their wrinkly face and mouth flaps, but English Bullies are one of the prettiest dogs with an underbite.

The world’s first underbite, Roscoe Hamilton, the English Bully that has 722 million followers on Instagram, proves this point.

5. Dogue De Bordeaux

Some dog breeds you’ll encounter today aren’t that popular. But, the truth is, they have been around for more than you could imagine. One of those dogs is the Dogue De Bordeaux.

This ancient breed comes from France, and it is also known as the French Mastiff. The Dogue De Bordeaux is a big doggo according to its growth charts. They need a firm hand to handle all those pounds and wrinkles.

Speaking of wrinkles…

The Dogue De Bordeaux has wrinkles all over his face, but his body isn’t normally creased. It’s covered in a short coat, making it easy to groom.

Despite the huge size, the Dogue De Bordeaux isn’t a dangerous breed. They’re super loyal and sweet to their family members.

6. Bloodhound

Born and raised as excellent trackers, Bloodhounds are one of the most popular hound dogs. We know quite a few great hunting dogs – one of them will be featured on the list down below, but none of them are as great as Bloodhounds.

Fun fact: The Bloodhound’s tracking ability is so good that he can pick up a scent within seconds. They will track down anything! If a Bloodhound finds something, it could be used as evidence in a court of law. Yes, that’s how good they are!

Bloodhounds have big, droopy ears, and lips just a bit bigger than they should be. However, it’s the wrinkles on their face and on their body that are visible due to their short coat that makes Bloodhounds one of the wrinkly dog breeds.

7. Bullmastiff

The British breed of Mastiffs, also known as Bullmastiffs, belong on this list, too, because they have wrinkles!

A Bullmastiff’s face is all smushy and wrinkly. It usually features a black mask, while the rest of the body is fawn or red. Also, other coat color combinations are possible.

Bullmastiffs usually look very scary, but don’t let that fool you. These dogs are super kind and loyal. They will never leave their owner’s side if something goes wrong. And, that’s highly appreciated.

8. Basset Hound

See, I told you there will be another hound dog down the list. Here’s the Basset Hound. He’s wrinkly, he’s got short legs, and we absolutely adore him!

The Basset Hound is a working dog that can easily turn into a cuddle buddy if you show him enough love. Bassets are loyal, and they always have their mind set on a goal. Okay, treatos are in focus, too!

Bassets have made the list of best wrinkly dog breeds because they have loose skin and folds covering their whole body. Wrinkles are especially noticeable on their short legs.

Bassets are one of the most recognizable breeds. Sadly, they don’t have a long lifespan, so you can enjoy a Basset’s company for only 10 to 12 years.

However, a Basset named Dean shows that they can live even more if they snooze all day and do nothing. Laziness at its finest! If you ask me, I’d totally follow this laziness guru’s recipe for a long life.

9. Neapolitan Mastiff

Oh, this dog is all big and wrinkly!

Meet the Neapolitan Mastiff – an impressive giant that will leave you… well, impressed!

The Neapolitan Mastiff is a breed that goes way back, even to gladiator fights in ancient Rome.

Wrinkly, big, and droopy – that’s how you can describe the Neapolitan Mastiff. However, these dogs aren’t as dangerous as some might think. As a matter of fact, Neapolitan Mastiffs are definitely gentle giants… dogs that are big, with an even bigger heart.

I definitely recommend getting this wrinkly dog breed if you have the time and space for them. I even have some good Neapolitan Mastiff breeders for you! The only downside of this breed is that they drool like crazy!

10. Pekingese

Much like his buddy, the Pug, the Pekingese is another dog with a smushy face. Yes, that makes them brachycephalic, too!

The Pekingese has deep creases on his face, and a flat snout. If it wasn’t for their long, luscious coat, there would be body wrinkles noticeable, too!

Teacup Pekingese dogs don’t have such prominent wrinkles because they’re so tiny. But, their bigger counterparts do.

A Pekingese is a loyal dog. They’re a great fit for single dog owners as they’re a bit independent and like having things their own way. Still, they cherish human companionship more than anything!

11. Chow Chow

No, that dog isn’t mad at you. The scowling is absolutely natural, and not caused by anything you did. Chow Chows are simply born that way. Yes, they do belong on this list of wrinkly dog breeds.

Of course, their wrinkles aren’t as prominent as with Bassets or Mastiffs. Chow Chows have a stunning, thick coat that comes in several colors. Thanks to this, their wrinkles aren’t that visible. Still, that’s a great thing because it means they won’t be that prone to skin infections due to skin folds.

To Sum Up…

Can we all agree that these mentioned wrinkly dog breeds are simply too cute to handle?

Every pup mentioned today, from the small Pug to the large Dogue De Bordeaux, is pawdorably wrinkly. They all make terrific pets, and you’d be lucky to have one.

A pup isn’t beautiful just because he has a lovely, fancy coat that comes in many colors, or a specific marking on his body. Beauty lies deep under all that fluff!

Let’s ditch the popular statement that fluffy white pups are the prettiest ones. They’re not. Other dog breeds are beautiful, too!  Wrinkly dogs are gorgeous, too, and you’ll just have to embrace it.
