Dogs are one of those animals that will find friends in pretty much anyone. They don’t see differences, or what someone does for a living. All they see is if someone’s a good person or not.
And, that’s just one of the reasons why we love those fluffy creatures so much!
Needless to say that we adore them for being so sweet, protective, and true friends whenever we need them.
We could really learn a thing or two from dogs; for example, how to behave with people who have jobs that are often misunderstood and marginalized.
One of those jobs is the job of a garbage man (or trash collector). It’s a decent job, just like any other, which requires hard work and dedication… nothing funny about it, nothing to be embarrassed of.
Still, ignorant people decide they have the right to belittle such workers.
Lily, the Labrador, never saw her friend, the garbage collector, as someone beneath her.
She saw him as her friend… the best one in the entire world.
A Special Bond Between A Dog And Her Garbage Man
Friday is garbage day in Bedford, New Hampshire, and Lily is already outside, waiting for her favorite man ever.
And, no… it’s not her owner.
Okay, Ishaan Chatterjee, the official owner of Lily, the Lab, comes in close second. But, Lily has gifted her heart to someone else: their garbage man.
As a dog that loves to spend her days outside, looking at people passing by, Lily was always hoping that someone would stop and give her some attention, as if she didn’t get enough at home!
Still, no one really cared to stop for a second and give this good girl a belly rub. Of course, the mailman held his guard, as we all know how mailmen are around dogs.
She waited and waited…
And, then, one day, David came around.
The local garbageman was the first who paid some attention to Lily. He gave her cuddles and belly rubs, and the rest became history. A tight friendship bond was born.
“Their relationship has blossomed into the sweetest thing,” said Lily’s owner, “We actually give our garbage man holiday gifts every year to show our appreciation for how he treats Lily.”
Okay, the fact that David always carries dog treats in his pocket helped a lot, too.
This unusual couple has proved that friendship comes in many forms, and each one of them is wonderful.
“She shows us how to be more kind to others!” Chatterjee said. “It’s amazing what we can learn from animals.”
The moment she feels the garbage truck is near, Lily braces herself. The amount of tail wagging and happiness can’t be described.

Ishaan is not jealous at all. He’s glad that his sweet dog is so friendly and knows no differences between people. Lily is one of the kindest dogs in the whole Bedford area. I bet other pups are trying to follow her example and become friends with their garbage men, too!
