Animal friendships are usually adorable, and companionship between two different kinds are especially fascinating. Some relationships are just so tight that they can overcome any disagreement.
This story is a true example of how you can find friends in the most unexpected places!
Inseparable Best Friends
Cinnamon, the goat, and Felix, the dog, arrived at the Wake County Animal Shelter on March 13, 2023, after their owner got health problems.
“Unfortunately, their owner was hospitalized and unable to care for them any longer.
Animal Services brought them to us for temporary housing, which eventually resulted in us being granted ownership,” said Meagan Thomas, a community outreach manager for the Wake County Government.
Unbreakable Friendship
It was clear to the government-run shelter that Felix and Cinnamon were not interested in being split up the day the animals arrived.
“When our team was doing the intake exam and vaccines for Felix, Cinnamon wouldn’t leave him. She would call if we tried to remove her,” says Jennifer Federico, a veterinarian and the animal services director for the Wake County Government.
“We wanted to do what was in the best interest of Felix and Cinnamon. We had local rescues say they would take them. However, it would mean placing them in another shelter environment — which wasn’t ideal for Cinnamon,”
“We had farms step up for Cinnamon – but they couldn’t take Felix due to other dogs they already had. We had to find the right place and rescue.”
Finding A Forever Home
Cinnamon and Felix’s strong bond was evident, and it was clear that they were inseparable. The shelter recognized they needed a home that would welcome both of them.
Though an uncommon circumstance, the shelter was determined to find a way to keep these cherished friends together.
The Mr. Mo Project, a longstanding rescue partner of the Wake County Animal Center, located the perfect home.“We knew that we had the perfect foster who owns a farm with goats and has fostered for us 4 or 5 times,” the founders added.
From Shelter To Happiness
Jacquie Bankes, a foster from The Mr. Mo Project, joyfully took in Cinnamon and Felix, offering them a permanent home at her North Carolina farm. He said that the pair thrived, learned new tricks, and remained as close as ever.
“They are adjusting well! Felix is like the big brother. He tolerates his rambunctious little sister Cinnamon who wants to spend every second with him,” Bankes shares, adding that the animals have a future of “lots of love and spoiling” to look forward to.
Cinnamon and Felix’s heartwarming friendship reminds us of the strong bonds animals can share. Their journey from a shelter to a loving home demonstrates the power of compassion and determination in keeping true friends together.
