In the time I have spent writing articles about dogs, there were quite a few instances where I had researched a story about missing dogs.
The common thing with all of them is that dogs get lost mostly by accident, and their owners relentlessly try to find them.
It’s a horrible thing when it happens, and in this story, we will talk about a case where a man was reunited with his dog who was lost for a long time.
A Long And Exhausting Search
In June of this year, a man named Jerry Lockhart, from Amarillo, Texas, had lost his 2-year-old dog, Cali. She was a very happy and playful Border Collie, so it was unlikely that she just ran away from her owner.
The likely answer is that Cali ran out of her back yard and didn’t know how to return. Lockhart was completely heartbroken when he realized she was gone.
However, he didn’t waste a moment. Just after the realization, he reported his dog was missing and followed the standard procedure in the case of a missing dog.
He put flyers on the streets, asked for help from the local animal shelters, and asked friends and family to report back to him if they ever heard or saw anything.
Time had flown by and there were no clues, or anything. Lockhart was relentless – he was refusing to give up hope, and so he continued his search.
This was caught by many other people in the community, and they all rallied together in support of Lockhart.
Many would give resources to help search for Cali, and they helped by sharing the story of the missing dog online.
A Fateful Phone Call
It was August 17th, 2023. Cali had been missing for 77 days now, and it seemed like there was little hope she would return.
Then, suddenly, Lockhart received a phone call from a woman who said that she saw Cali in a field that was close to her home in South Front Boulevard, Texas.
She believed that was really her, so she told Lockhart to come and check it out for himself, and he didn’t need to be asked twice.
He was there in a heartbeat and saw that it really was Cali. Their reunion was about as emotional as you could expect. He was hugging her constantly and shedding tears of joy.
In an interview for KFDA News Channel 10, Lockhart said: And when they caught the dog, I knew the address exactly, and uh… and when they did, I said I lived in the house next door when I was six years old.
Cali is now finally safe and back at her home. Lockhart went the extra mile to make sure that something like this would not happen again.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone who aided him in this journey, and is thankful that the entire event had a happy ending.
