Just because a dog has a roof over its head doesn’t mean it has a loving home.
Many passers-by probably didn’t even notice that a chained doggo had no one to take care of her until one couple noticed the poor pooch.
The story of Xena… a pup that was left without her owners and hope, is heartbreaking, but it also shows there are still good people out there willing to help pooches left without anyone to take care of them.
Chains Of Solitude
One of Xena’s saviors shared the unbelievable story in the TikTok video she made, as she filmed the whole process of Xena’s rescue.
The couple was driving by a property while on their trip to the mountains, and they accidentally noticed a chained doggo trying to vomit unsuccessfully because there was literally nothing in her belly.
Although they did not stop, the couple couldn’t stop thinking about the poor thing that was starving and had no chance to save herself because of the chain around her neck.
After asking around, the couple was devastated by finding out that the dog’s owners passed away because of COVID infection, and this poor four-legged girl has been alone in this whole wide world for three years without anyone to take good care of her.
According to their story, the owners had a son who wasn’t particularly interested in the dog, and was willing to give her to literally anyone at this point.
However, there weren’t many interested people willing to take care of an older pooch, and he clearly didn’t have any plans of taking the dog with him.
A Tail That Wagged After Three Years Of Misery
Xena, the courageous doggie, was terrified by the new visitors at first, and she wouldn’t leave her home easily, although it has been more of a prison, at least for the last three years.
Xena’s hesitation was a completely normal reaction, especially because she went through heaven and hell with no one around to help her.
Scabs, fleas, ticks, flies – Xena’s body was drowning in infections, bacteria, and pests, but her strong will to live kept her alive.
Fortunately enough, the couple who came by not only rescued Xena, but also offered her a warm home filled with love, affection, and delicious dog food, just as she deserves.
Although she didn’t have much strength left, as she was starving, Xena was able to wag her tail again and show just how excited and thankful she was for her rescue.
Another Day, Another Painful Discovery
Xena was introduced to her new home and other furry friends, and the couple was beyond happy to see how excited their new rescue doggo was.
However, when they took her to the vet, although they knew that Xena’s condition wasn’t perfect, the couple couldn’t even imagine they’d hear that some of the physical injuries and scars were caused by humans, as Maia explained in the second part of the story:
“During the physical check up, we learned that she has a bunch of big bumps on her body, probably from being beat up so badly 🙁”
This only encouraged the new owners to offer this poor furry bud as much love and protection as possible.
Learning How To Live (Again)
After being alone for three years, Xena was finally able to enjoy life again with her new family.
Her new owners turned beach visits into a regular habit, and she loved every moment of it, especially when she was accompanied by other furry pals (although she wasn’t very fond of water).
She showed appreciation and love to her rescuers every day by coming for cuddles and pets, and her eyes were filled with happiness.
Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for things to go south once again.
Xena, A True Warrior Princess
“We came home after a beach workout and we noticed that Xena was not looking normal. She was paralyzed on the floor and had a huge belly, her eyes were wide open, and she was breathing too fast.”
Maia, one of the owners, posted another video on TikTok with bad news – Xena was diagnosed with gastric torsion, which is why she underwent not one, but three immediate operations.
Although the situation was life-threatening, Xena, as a true warrior princess, managed to recover from it with the help of her loving owners.
It didn’t take long for her to be back on the beach and enjoy outdoor time with her fam, although she had to be much more careful until she was fully recovered.
Thousands of people, including myself, are excited about every new update on Xena’s fascinating story, which, once again, proves that hope indeed dies last, and that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
