Most people have the perception that dogs are so mischievous that it is impossible to leave them unattended without making a mess. Michael Brown, a dog owner from Santa Monica, California, was of the same opinion.
This man had no experience with dogs until just a few months ago, as he had never owned a dog until then. Then he adopted a puppy quite by accident, and from then on, he started to gain “canine experience.”
However, after a few months, he still didn’t know how his puppy would behave if left alone in the house. It was precisely for this reason that he conducted a kind of test.
The results of that “test” surprised him greatly.
Truly A Good Boi
A few months after Michael adopted a puppy named Cactus from Pups Without Borders, an animal rescue service in Los Angeles, California, he decided to see how he would react if he left him home alone.
This man knew that Cactus was a good boy but that was during the time when he was with him. Michael was convinced that Cactus would not behave nearly as well when he wasn’t around.
After he started to crate-train him in August, Michael decided to leave Cactus alone in the crate with open doors. Since the crate was right next to his bed, he expected to find a gnawed bed and many broken things around the house.
However, when he entered the room after a certain period, he was surprised but also delighted. Despite the complete freedom to get out of the crate and do whatever he wanted, Cactus proved that he was a good doggo and stayed inside, loyally waiting for his owner to return.

After this incredible event, Michael tried to do a few more things to at least lure Cactus out of the crate. First, he turned up the TV in the next room, but Cactus didn’t come out. Then, he bought him a comfortable bed and put it right next to it, but Cactus remained faithful to his crate.
Finally, when he didn’t know what to do anymore, Michael turned on his laptop and put it in front of the crate to watch. This was Cactus’s biggest interaction with the outside world.
He remained loyal to his crate until the end but also showed everyone that he was a good boy and that dogs in general know how to behave well even when no one is supervising them.

The TikTok video Michael posted on August 8, 2024, featuring Cactus’s good behavior in the crate, attracted so much attention that it left even him in awe.
There were many reactions, and we highlighted some of the comments.

And the third elaborated: “That’s good behavior! You want them to feel safe in their crate so that whenever they have to be in there, they don’t see it as a punishment and feel anxious”
If what this man wrote is true, and we think it is, then Michael has truly done a fantastic job. Yet, it wouldn’t be a problem if Cactus broke a glass or a vase once in a while.
