Heartbroken Woman Finds A Flooded Enclosure With The Saddest Note Taped On The Front

No matter their shape, breed, or size, animals really do make our world a better place.

Not only are they super cute, but they also do whatever they can to bring a smile to our faces. This is because they see us as their friend rather than their owner.

Luckily, many hoomans feel this way, too. So, when one incredible woman heard that there was an animal who needed her help, she answered the call in a heartbeat.

Rescue Mission

While browsing through Facebook one summer morning, a woman named Ariel Poirier came across a post that brought tears to her eyes.

Someone from her neighborhood was walking their sweet pup when they came across an abandoned enclosure in the middle of the street. Not being able to take it themselves, the neighbor decided to make a Facebook post asking somebody to take it in.

Poirier immediately realized what type of an enclosure it was and who was hiding within its walls so she quickly made her way down to the location.

“I immediately went to see if anyone had picked them up yet. I love animals and our natural environment — it hurts my heart to see any pet tossed away (no matter how big or small),” Poirier told The Dodo.

Since a big storm hit their town the previous night, Poirier was afraid that it managed to flood the entire thing, and she was right!

Something else she was able to predict was the residents that were hiding inside. There was a note taped to the front that read:  “Free to a good home. 4 hermit crabs.”

Unfortunately, the enclosure had mold on it and the hermit crabs were completely covered in gnats. She also noticed that their shells were a bit too small for them and were even painted, which made them toxic for these little guys to live in.

Knowing that they desperately needed some TLC, Poirier refused to waste a single second so she loaded the enclosure into her car and took them home.

A Much-Needed Makeover

The best thing is the fact that Poirier has been researching hermit crabs in hopes of owning a little group of them. She was learning what the perfect habitat is, how to build it, and all the things they need. However, she really didn’t expect to put all of that knowledge into practice this soon.

And, even though this was super overwhelming for her, Poirier refused to give up so she decided to call some reinforcements.

“I posted in the Land Hermit Crab Owners Society (LHCOS) Facebook group asking for recommendations. A person who does local rescue and fostering for hermit crabs reached out and gave (and has continued to give) wonderful guidance and recommendations,” “I received some food and supplies from [them] and a care package from someone in the neighborhood Facebook group that recently had their hermit crab pass,” Poirier said.

With efforts from so many kindhearted people, Poirier was able to build one of the coolest habitats ever.

And, of course, the little hermit crabs loved it!

Not only did they get an incredible place to hang out in, but they also got new shells! And, this time, they were the right size and had no toxic paint on them.

And, even though Poirier didn’t expect to become a proud hooman of such adorable guys this soon, she couldn’t be happier!

Naming them Peach, Krebs, Pierre, and Juniper, the little family couldn’t have asked for a better ending!
