It is absolutely tragic when a pregnant dog is abandoned by its owner. A person who does that is not only condemning the pup, but her babies as well.
They won’t have much chance of survival on their own and street life is incredibly dangerous for any pup who has previously lived in a home.
However, some people just don’t care. So long as it’s no longer their responsibility, they think it’s okay to do it.
This pregnant dog suffered through the same thing. While her hopes seemed to go down, she actually managed to find help when Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) found her.
She’s Doing Okay
After the rescuers found Gracie, they were shocked by her situation. She was pregnant and malnourished. They had no idea how long she had spent outside.
Nobody quite knew who she belonged to before and how she ended up in this situation. Their best guess was that she was abandoned.
To make things worse, it looked like she was pregnant for a while and could actually give birth very soon.
The New York rescuers immediately rushed to get her into a shelter. While there, they took care of her. She received medical care and a lot of food and water.
However, this was probably not the best place for her. If you really think about it, she needs a foster home where she would have someone watch over her constantly.
They were able to get her situated pretty quickly. She was safe now and Gracie just looked happy to finally be in a warm and cozy place where she could rest.

A few days after Gracie was rescued and placed in a foster home, she started giving birth. She chose a spot that suited her best and her foster parents were there with her.
In the end, everything went well and the sweet dog now became a mom. She gave birth to three healthy puppies.
The New York rescuers posted a clip on their Instagram page where they notified their followers about Gracie’s situation.
People were overjoyed to learn that this mama dog now finally has a fighting chance with her new foster parents.
One person commented: “She needs lots of yummy protein and soft blankets and towels to keep her comfortable as she tends to her pups.”
I have no doubt that her rescuers who worked hard to help will provide her with absolutely everything she needs.
Another person said: “Congratulations Gracie. You are going to be a good mom.”
It’s just beautiful to see how she immediately started caring for her babies and is trying to be a good mom. Gracie and her babies will spend time with their foster parents, but their rescuers will place them on an adoption list soon.
While we don’t know what happens next in their story, I am just relieved to see that Gracie at least now has a fighting chance.
