Dogs deserve all the best. They are our symbol of friendship and kindness, and they are always there when we need them.
I think it’s fair to say that people take that for granted sometimes, and they can mistreat their dogs even when they don’t deserve it.
Dogs require patience, care, and a lot of love and attention. If that can’t be provided by the people they’re close to, then maybe it’s best to abstain from getting a puppy.
In this story, we will talk about an example of such mistreatment. This dog was abandoned by his family and left to survive on his own in horrible rainy weather.
A Scared Dog Looking For A Shelter
When animal rescuer, Suzette Hall, was informed of a small dog walking around the neighborhood and looking for shelter, she knew something had to be done to help the pup.
She understood the pup, as she also had gone through a similar problem due to the flooding of Southern California, and is now looking for a new home.
Hall said to The Dodo: I had been feeling so displaced that day, like I didn’t have anywhere to go. Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy dog rescue. And then I got the message about the dog.
The people from the neighborhood said they noticed the dog a few days prior. It was likely that he was abandoned by his family and just left on the street.
The constant rain had scared her and she was looking for any place she could stay in.
Hall continued by saying: She would go up and scratch on the door like, ‘Let me in! Then, when no one answered, she would just sit there and shake.
Rescue Mission Is Underway
Before she could help her, she wanted to make sure the dog really didn’t belong to anybody, so she made a post about it online, and no one responded.
When she finally found her, she noticed the dog was very skittish, avoiding contact with her at all costs.
She tried to lure him with a food trap, so she left some treats for her in hopes that she would eat them, but it only made the dog more scared.
When that didn’t work, she tried by simply talking to the dog. She said: She was too scared to go into the trap, so I sat there with her and talked to her. I was telling her that I understood how she felt. I was saying, ‘I don’t have a home either right now.’
Surprisingly, this worked. The pup started to relax and she managed to get close enough to touch her.
She gave her a few pets and then she transported her to her truck where the dog drifted asleep.
Dog Finally Gets The Help She Deserves
She was immediately brought to a veterinarian who nurtured her back to health. The only remaining issue was her matter fur, which needed resolving.
They took her to a groomer who shaved her knotted hair clumps and made her look pretty again.
The dog, now named Nikki, was finally ready to move to her new foster home where she would await adoption.
Hall said: She’s one of those dogs who everyone just loves instantly. She’s so kind, and she doesn’t even bark!
To this day, Nikki is still in her foster home waiting for her new family, and until she finds one, Hall and her team will continue to give her all the love she deserves.
