Mini Double Doodle, It’s The Fairest One Of All

We all love Doodle dogs. They are cute and fluffy with round black eyes to steal your heart. But can they be cuter? Well, I am glad you asked!

Yes, they can — they can be Double Doodles. And can they be even cuter than that? Definitely! The cutest version is called a Mini Double Doodle.

We are going to talk about the fairest one of all — the Mini Double Doodle, a unique breed that is rapidly gaining popularity all across the US.

What is so special about these dogs? Cuteness aside, they are also hypoallergenic and amazing for families living in the apartments. But we will talk about that later. For now, let’s see what a Mini Double Doodle is.

What Is a Mini Double Doodle?

The Mini Double Doodle was made by crossing a Mini Goldendoodle and a Mini Labradoodle. That makes our Mini Double Doodle a designer dog. What is a designer dog?

Well, it is a dog made by crossing two purebred dogs. The other name for a designer dog is a hybrid dog. There is another name for a Mini Double Doodle or any other Doodle out there: the North American Retriever dog.

Mini Double Doodles look just like the Standard Double Doodles. The only difference is in the size – Mini Double Doodles are smaller. Apart from size, some health problems can occur more often in the Mini version because of the specific breeding program involved in their origin.

The Mini Double Doodle is the kind of dog that goes well with all families, they are the friendliest Doodles, they are one of the happiest dogs, and you will fall in love with them in the blink of an eye. You won’t even realize what’s happened, but then again, that’s how love works.

When it comes to this type of dog breed (or better — crossbreed) their temperament and other traits depend on the parent dogs. If that’s the case, let’s meet the parents!

Who Are The Parents?

labradoodle and goldendoodle

Let’s start with the term Doodle. A Doodle dog is considered to be any dog that has a Poodle parent. It can be a Standard Poodle, a Moyen Poodle, a Miniature Poodle, or even a Toy Poodle. The other dog parent can be any other dog breed in the world.

The Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever are the dog breeds most commonly used in making designer Doodles.

The Mini Doodle is a crossbreed dog, which means it has two crossbreed dog parents — a Mini Goldendoodle and a Mini Labradoodle.

With both dog parents being designer dogs, our own designer or hybrid dog has a lot of high-quality traits, and they are generally healthier than standard Doodles. But this is only true if the breeding program is done correctly and humanely.

But let’s see what traits our Mini Double Doodle is going to get from their amazing mini Doodle parents. One thing is sure — they will be amazing at retrieving things.

The Mini Goldendoodle

This is one of the parents of our Mini Double Doodle. The Mini Goldendoodle is a designer dog bred by mixing a Golden Retriever and a Miniature (Mini) Poodle. Just like we have a smaller version of a Standard Double Doodle (called Mini Double Doodle), this one is smaller than the Standard Goldendoodle.

Because the Poodle is one of the parents, all Goldendoodle puppies, no matter the size, can have the hypoallergenic trait. They are also very outgoing, active, and easy to please because all they want to do is to please you.

So, a Mini Goldendoodle is a very friendly dog, with a bright personality, and a great desire to be close to its owner and family in general.

Oh, and don’t forget, they are also very cute, and they passed the cuteness on to the Mini Double Doodle, as well.

The Mini Labradoodle

We meet the other Mini Double Doodle parent — the Mini Labradoodle. Breeders got this dog from breeding a Labrador Retriever and a Mini Poodle. This designer dog also got the hypoallergenic or low-shedding trait from its Poodle parent, but it also got intelligence from both parents.

They can also be called Golden Labradoodle.

Both the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle are active and intelligent dogs, and highly trainable. So, when you mix them you get a cute, trainable, and smart pooch called the Mini Labradoodle.

We are talking about the Mini version, but of course, there is a standard version called simply the Labradoodle. The only difference is the size because the standard Labradoodle has a Standard Poodle parent.

But activeness, friendliness, openness to strangers, and trainability are the traits of all Labradoodles, including our Mini Labradoodle, the parent dog of a Mini Double Doodle.

The Origin Of The Mini Double Doodle

We do not know the exact year (sometimes in the early 1990s) or the place, but we know the reason behind the making of a Mini Double Doodle. The breeders wanted a dog that would be a great family member to any type of family, with high energy levels and a dog’s coat with a special hypoallergenic trait for all allergy sufferers.

So, a Double Doodle dog was created. These dogs had the low-shedding trait which made them hypoallergenic. That means that they are less likely to cause an allergic reaction in allergy sufferers.

With their developed social skills and overall friendliness to not only people but other dogs and other animals too, they found the best dog in the whole of North America for the title of “Best Friend”.

But the Standard Double Doodle is a big dog. So, the breeders thought about ways to make a smaller version of this amazing crossbreed. They needed that because not everyone has a lot of space for these very energetic dogs.

The Medium Double Doodle was the first smaller version of the Standard Double Doodle. They are smaller than the standard version and bigger than the Mini version of a Double Doodle dog.

And, finally, they realized that the best version is our Mini Double Doodle! They could fit and adapt to any living quarters. No matter if you live in a 400-square-foot studio apartment or you are enjoying the fresh air on your farm — a Mini Double Doodle will be happy with you!

The Appearance Of The Mini Double Doodle

All of the physical traits of a Mini Double Doodle depend on the physical traits of the dog’s parents. Even though these dogs are a crossbreed made of two other crossbreeds, that doesn’t mean we will know what our puppy is going to look like.

The general physical characteristics of a Mini Double Doodle are:

• height: 14 to 18 inches

• weigh: up to 30 pounds

• coat: medium-length

• eyes: black to brown, round

• nose: black

• tail: long

But even though these are the same traits for all Mini Double Doodles, that still doesn’t mean you won’t get a “surprise puppy” in the next litter. That is because of a silly thing called — genes.

They are the reason for example, why only you of all family members have curly hair, and not straight. But when you look at the family tree you see that your great-grandma had the same curly hair. What?

Well, genes work the same for other mammals too. If you have a mixed dog made of already mixed dogs, you can expect a lot of genes to interfere with the final outcome.

This means, your adorable mini Double Doodle can be a little heavier, can get a bit more furry eyebrow patches on the face, or the nose is not quite black.

So, genes can creep up and surprise us with a Mini Double Doodle that looks a lot like a Labrador Retriever, with just a hint of a Golden Retriever or a Poodle.

Unfortunately, that could also mean that our Mini Double Doodle puppy is going to visit the groomer a lot. That is because of the fact that the Labrador Retriever has a high shedding trait.

If that’s the case, we need to look at the parents, and the parent’s parents — let’s read about the Goldendoodle and Labradoodle appearance.

The Mini Goldendoodle Appearance

First of all, the Mini Goldendoodle is very cute! They have the cutest face with a hint of both parents. You can see the Poodle side and the Golden Retriever side when you look at this gorgeous Doodle’s face.

They have a button nose and button eyes; basically, they are as cute as a button. Because this is a Miniature mix, their height is up to 20 inches, and they can weigh up to 30 pounds.

The physical traits of a Mini Goldendoodle:

• eyes: black, brown, or blue; round shape

• nose: black or brown

• coat length: long

• coat density: very dense

• coat texture: curly

• ears: floppy

We have to emphasize that the curliness of the coat or the length of the coat depends on the cross. In other words, it depends on the dog’s parents and their physical traits. If the parents had longer coats and curlier fur, then it is only reasonable to assume that the puppies will inherit those traits too.

A Mini Double Doodle dog can inherit all of these traits, too. So, you can see now how difficult it can be to predict the physical traits of a Double Doodle litter. We can assume and guess, but no one can be 100% certain.

Differences can appear within the same litter, not only between two litters. This is something you need to take into consideration if you are planning to buy a Mini Double Doodle puppy.

A Mini, or any other Goldendoodle, can inherit more of the Golden Retriever’s physical traits. That means that we can expect these traits in a Mini Double Doodle, as well. The traits connected with the Golden Retriever are a deep chest, thick tail, wider stance, and a longer snout.

We are not saying these traits are bad, but if you’d prefer your Mini Double Doodle to look more like a Poodle, these are also things to take into consideration. Also, with the physical traits of a Golden Retriever comes the not-so-much hypoallergenic trait.

The Mini Labradoodle Appearance

I know I said that Mini Goldendoodles are responsible for giving “the cute looks” to the Mini Double Doodle, but I have to take it back and say — both the Mini Labradoodle and the Mini Goldendoodle are responsible for the cute looks. Have you seen a Mini Labradoodle? They look like Teddy bears too.

Just like their Mini Golden Doodle cousin, they are a miniature version of the Standard Labradoodle. Their height is up to 16 inches, and they can weigh up to 25 pounds. So, they do appear to be a bit smaller in both height and weight than the Mini Goldendoodle.

But, what about the gorgeous looks of these Miniature Labradoodle-cuties:

• eyes: brown or golden; round shape

• nose: black or brown

• coat length: long

• coat density: normal

• coat texture: wavy

• ears: floppy

The most noticeable difference between Mini Goldendoodle and Mini Labradoodle is their coat length. The coat of the Mini Labradoodle is not only shorter but also less dense than the coat of the Mini Goldendoodle. This coat difference can be transferred to the Mini Double Doodle litter.

As you already know, they can inherit a wavy or curly coat type depending on the genes. Not only can the Mini Double Doodle puppies inherit the coat length, but they can also inherit the shedding level of a Labradoodle that comes from the shedding level of a Labrador Retriever.

The Temperament of The Mini Double Doodle

When we think about all the traits of a Mini Double Doodle dog, we have to think about all the dog breeds that were involved in the making of this wonderful dog breed gene pool.

That means we have to pay attention to the temperaments of a Poodle, Labrador Retriever, and Golden Retriever. Our Mini Double Doodle will have a combination of the characteristics of these three dogs.

What does that look like? It looks amazing, actually! Here are the inherent characteristics:

• friendly

• intelligent

• highly trainable

• family oriented

• amazing retrieving capability

• playfulness

• great with young children

• great with other animals

• great with other dogs

• adaptable

• sensitive to human emotions

This sounds like a great dog to have as a family dog, and it truly is! All three dogs that “made” the parents of the Double Doodle are wonderful family pets, highly loyal and affectionate. So, multiply these traits three times and you’ll get the Double Doodle!

Very loyal, very affectionate, and easy to adapt to all kinds of living conditions and different family types.

What do these traits actually mean?

Friendly

It means that you won’t have a lot of problems with the Mini Double Doodle dog when it comes to playing with other animals, other dogs, or children of all ages. This trait comes from all the dog breeds involved in the making of a Mini Double Doodle.

Even though some people might ask specifically if Golden Retrievers are aggressive, we don’t have to separate dog breeds. We can ask the same question for a German Shepherd or a Cavapoo. The point is, we make the dogs aggressive — they are not born aggressive, especially not Golden Retrievers.

Intelligent

So, the Mini Double Doodle is one of the friendliest Doodles, and they are very intelligent too. Their intelligence mainly comes from the Poodle parent.

I guess we have all heard about their beauty and their wits. Poodles are very intelligent, and they give those “smart genes” to their offspring too, whether it’s another purebred Poodle or a Poodle crossbreed.

Our Mini Doodle has a lot of strong (smart) genes to start with, including the genes inherited from the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever.

Trainable

Intelligence goes hand in hand with trainability. When you have a smart pooch, you can be certain you won’t have to huff and puff to reach the goal. Your Mini Doodle will be more than happy to listen to your commands.

That means the commands like sit, go, or wait, are going to be a piece of cake for your Einstein of a Doodle.

But, not only that — the Mini Double Doodle will learn more complicated commands and will more easily learn how to behave in the dog park, with children, or with strangers.

Family Oriented and Sensitive

The family-oriented trait goes together with a sensibility to human emotions. These are lovely traits that all true dog owners know how to cherish. All three dog breeds making the core of our Mini Double Doodle are family-oriented dogs, extremely loyal, and they can sense our fear, sadness, or anger.

All dogs can do that, but some are better at it than others. Mini Double Doodles will act according to your emotions and be there for you at all times.

Playful

Playfulness is one of the greatest traits of a Mini Double Doodle! They will enjoy playtime, barking, wagging their tails, and playing all sorts of games with you and your family.

They do have retriever blood in their veins. And this retriever trait comes not only from the Golden Retriever and the Labrador Retriever, but it comes from the Poodle too.

Did you know that the Poodle was originally bred as a water-retrieving dog? And they were amazing at it! So, once again don’t double, but triple the fun, and you’ll get the Mini Double Doodle. They might be small, but they are playful and lively!

Adaptability

The adaptability of a dog means they will be able to handle sudden and frequent changes in your life. Whether you get a new job that requires you to walk your Doodle at a different time or you just got married and there will be three of you from now on, the Mini Double Doodle can handle it.

Of course, that doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want with them. They need some sense of security too, and a lot of affection to make sure they understand we still love them, even though we can’t play as often or for as long as we used to.

The difference between adaptable dogs and those that are not, is that they get used to the changes much faster and without a lot of fuss.

The Health Of The Mini Double Doodle

Photo from: @kona.zoodle

When it comes to the health of a Mini Double Doodle, their diverse genome makes them very healthy. They are certainly healthier than their purebred ancestors, and they also have lower chances of having diseases common to the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle.

This doesn’t mean they can’t have the same diseases as their parent breeds, but that they are less likely to occur.

Their expected lifespan is 13 to 16 years. Of course, the lifespan of any dog breed depends on how we treat them, not only physically but mentally too. The food they eat, the grooming they have, the walks, the cuddles, everything comes into the expectancy of a dog’s lifespan.

But, of course, as with any other living being on this planet, some health issues can occur.

If it happens that you got a Mini Double Doodle from a breeder that didn’t pay attention to the health problems of the purebred dogs involved in the breeding program, then your puppy can inherit some of these problems.

Mini Double Doodle’s common health issues are:

Patellar Luxation

Eye diseases (retinal atrophy)

Von Willebrand’s disease (vWD)

You can always check the parents of your Mini Double Doodle puppy. That way you can be sure whether your dog will have some issues as well. Unfortunately, some health issues cannot be predicted, and we can act only when the first symptoms appear.

What Are The Colors Of The Mini Double Doodle?

If you want to know the color of your future Mini Double Doodle, it’s a simple answer — just twist the kaleidoscope and enjoy the uncertainty of all the possibilities. They can come in numerous coat color variations.

Here are some of the most common coat color variations of the Mini Double Doodle:

• Apricot

• Golden

• Brown

• White

Some of the rarest coat colors of any Double Doodle, including our Mini Double Doodle, are:

• Black

• Parti

• Merle

• Blue

• Brindle

Because the Mini Double Doodle is a crossbreed of two crossbreed dogs, any coat color variation combined with any coat color pattern is possible. There are low chances you will get a black puppy from an apricot male and a golden female, but never say never. Who knows what dominant color genes are lurking in the depths of a gene pool? You might get a surprise.

What Is The Price Of The Mini Double Doodle?

Photo from: @puppy_match

The price of a crossbreed dog (or any other breed of dog) depends on the purebred parents, the number of puppies in the litter, and the number of litters per year. But the average price of the fairest of them all — the Mini Double Doodle, is between $1,000 and $3,000.

Such a high price is to be expected from a reputable breeder that has all the information about the dog’s parents, and their health problems, and who took exceptional care of all the Mini Double Doodle puppies.

The high price of these puppies is also expected because of the hypoallergenic trait and their small size that fits any home.

The price can be lower, but when the price is too low, it usually means something’s not right. Either the dog’s parents are not truly a Mini Labradoodle and a Mini Goldendoodle, or they might have some of the health issues we talked about earlier.

You can always ask for a health guarantee from a breeder. If they refuse — something is not right. You have the full right to ask for all the necessary documents if they are asking for such a high price.

And any good breeder will be more than happy to offer you all the documents or to answer any questions regarding the puppy and its parents.

If you are not interested in the pedigree or you just want to save a life, you can always check some of the websites that are dedicated to saving all kinds of Doodles. Who knows, you might find your perfect Mini Double Doodle there.

Keep in mind that you won’t know the health problems of such a dog, especially if you find a puppy to adopt. But it will all be worth it when you get all the love from those button-like round eyes.

Other Double Doodle Mixes

In the beginning, people only used miniature versions of Goldendoodles and Labradoodles to make a Mini Double Doodle. The kennels and breeders focused on the Goldendoodle Labradoodle mix in order to make Double Doodle puppies of certain breed standards.

But as the word spread about this amazing crossbreed and all of its wonderful traits, especially the low-shedding trait and their small size, breeders started thinking about other possible Double Doodle mixes. So, they started making more and more different Double Doodles.

For example, there are:

the Australian Mountain Doodle (a mix of Bernedoodle and Aussiedoodle)

the Australian Double Doodle (a mix of Australian Labradoodle and English Goldendoodle)

the Golden Mountain Doodle (a mix of Bernedoodle and Goldendoodle)

All of these Double Doodles we’ve mentioned are hypoallergenic because all of them share one non-shedding parent. Their popularity is lower than the popularity of a Mini Double Doodle.

They are not as standardized as the North American Retriever (Mini Double Doodle) and still go through a so-called testing phase in breeding programs all over the US. But no matter the parent breeds they all look like teddy bears, and you just want to cuddle them!

The Conclusion

Do you remember the fairy tale where the queen asks the magic mirror “Magic mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?” Well, the original answer of the magic mirror goes “My Queen, you are the fairest here so true. But Mini Double Doodle are a thousand times more beautiful than you.”

And the magic mirror never lies. You can see from the photos of this adorable and beautiful Doodle for yourself. They have that Teddy Bear cuteness, big round dark eyes, floppy ears, a unique type of coat, and the most beautiful part — their loving personality.

Mini Double Doodles are playful, intelligent, and affectionate. We already mentioned all the wonderful traits they inherited from their parent dogs, Mini Labradoodle and Mini Goldendoodle.

But remember, there are more and more Double Doodle versions coming to our world, like a Golden Mountain Doodle or Australian Double Doodle. Maybe these Double Doodles are for you.

Whatever Double Doodle you choose, you will get a life long best friend that will need love and care in return. You can always pamper your dog a little bit extra with all the wonderful dog toys, dog beds, or dog collars you can find in all kinds of places (for example, Amazon).

Your dog will be happy, and it will make you happier in an instant, too.
