Every dog has different needs when it comes to home preferences, as no two dogs are the same. Some breeds prefer low-key, small homes as they don’t need much space while others prefer a spacious back yard where they can exercise their potential to the fullest.
On the other hand, dogs born with disabilities require special attention and understanding from owners who ideally have a lot of patience and commitment at their disposal.
This is the story of Emerson, the German Shepherd puppy that has not been able to walk since the day she was born, and she’s still in the quest of her furever family…
Emerson Was Born A Little Different
Unfortunately, Emerson is not like the other dogs, as she was born with a plethora of disabilities: spina bifida and hip dysplasia, and she also has deformed joints on her hind legs.
Due to the severity of her issue, she’s not able to walk or perform regular activities, which is why her family decided to surrender her to the Paws 4 the Cause animal shelter in Lexington, Kentucky.
She’ll Need A Bigger Wheelchair
As she first entered the P4TC facility, they knew from the start that she was a special puppy. There was just so much life in her eyes despite the fact that she has been disabled her whole life.
Her former owners didn’t want to put her down even though everyone told them to.
They just wanted to make sure Emerson gets proper care from people who know how to deal with her condition, as they, themselves, weren’t able to do that. But, it was clear that she would need a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
“Emerson pulled at everyone’s heart strings from the minute we saw her sweet angel face,” said the P4TC team on their official Facebook page.
They made a custom wheelchair for this cute GSD so she could move easier. The problem, however, is that she already outgrew two of her wheelchairs, as she’s getting bigger and stronger every day.
She’s Currently With Her Foster Family
The Paws 4 The Cause team from Lexington, Kentucky, made sure Emerson got the nicest foster home in the world! She’s having the best time with her new foster family, boosting her social skills and basic manners.
However, their ultimate goal is to find a family who will be pawfect for this cute German Shepherd girl, and that’s certainly not an easy job.
Looking For A Forever Home
The foster family took a heart-melting shot of Emerson in her wheelchair next to a Christmas tree in their home. The P4TC team wrote that she’s still seeking her forever family who’ll love her for who she is.
“Emerson’s Christmas wish is that there is a special family out there to let her be a part of, and love her in every way. We know there is a place in this world for her, and someone or a family to give her their hearts.”
We wish for her to finally settle down in a new, loving home next to people who’ll know how to appreciate this beautiful girl’s company. Sure, she’s not like the other dogs, but she has countless smiles and oceans of love to offer!
