Giant-Hearted Postal Worker Rescues Two Canines From A House Fire

Admin

The myth that goes on for decades that postal workers and dogs are enemies is definitely just a myth. It took something severe like a house fire for people to realize that neither postal workers nor dogs have anything against each other.

A family from Kensington, Maryland, Laura and DeWayne Nichols almost lost everything in a house fire that started in their kitchen… everything, but their dogs.

Thanks to a selfless act of kindness by Vincent Ross, the family’s dogs were rescued and unharmed.

A Quick Call For Help

It started as a day like any other. Laura and DeWayne took off to work, leaving their dogs at home like they always do. Little did they know that this was not like the others. It was a day they will remember forever.

A postal worker named Vincent Ross, a 25-year-veteran, was on his regular route in the neighborhood. Suddenly, he noticed something odd. There was smoke coming from one of the houses on the street.

“People walking by said they know these people have pets,” Ross said.

Ross knew something had to be done. A quick 9-1-1 call and the Montgomery County Fire Department and EMS crew were on their way. But, then Ross heard one of the dogs barking inside.

Praying the teams come on the scene soon, knowing he can’t step into the burning house on his own, Ross was anxious. Fortunately, he didn’t have to worry too long. The teams arrived incredibly fast… just in time to rescue the dogs.

A young German Shepherd named Grohl and an 11-year-old Lab mix, Penelope, were miraculously saved. The teams operated fast, and if there were any human victims, they’d be able to rescue them all. But, in this case, there were just animals trapped inside.

When I say animals, I don’t mean just the two dogs. Unfortunately, the family lost three cats in the fire. But, the dogs were recovering after receiving oxygen. Grohl was fine and could reunite with his mom and dad, but Penelope needed to be monitored at the vet clinic.

Despite losing a big part of their family, the Nichols were grateful for the rescue.

“I think the dogs would’ve died for sure if the mailman hadn’t been there”, said Laura, for Fox 5 news. “I just can’t thank you enough for everything. Some people would’ve just walked by and not said anything. You saved them for sure.”

Ross was the right man at the right time in the right place.

“I’m just glad that I could help, you know… that’s all,” Ross said.

Vincent Ross is a true hero. He might not have been inside where the fire was, but thanks to his prompt reaction, professionals were called and arrived at the scene fast.

Unlike other people passing by in this Kensington neighborhood, Vincent did the only thing that had to be done: he called in and saved the whole world for the Nichols’ couple.

The world could use more people like this good man, Vincent.
