Aaah, nothing beats those unusual dog friendships!
I swear, it’s one of the few things in the world that still makes me gasp in amazement. I bet you think the same, too, because seeing cute animals together, especially if they’re of different species, makes a hooman’s heart warm.
German Shepherds, in particular, are known for their friendly personality. But, they don’t let just anyone into their furry world. If a German Shepherd chooses you, or some other animal, better know they feel like you’re worth it.
This rescued crow must be a really special crow because a German Shepherd chose him as her best friend.
One Unusual Family
Every GSD owner knows that walkie time is the favorite time of the day for any German Shepherd. These dogs need to lose their accumulated energy somehow. And, let’s be frank… we all enjoy walking around the block with our dogs, right?
When Xena started taking walkies with her family, she never thought they would have company, and an unusual one!
This rescued crow follows Xena like a baby duckling… imitating what she does and always sticking by her side.
Xena and her crow, Pepe, are so connected that they do everything together: from sniffing who marked their favorite trees to playing tug-o-war!
As the family said to The Dodo, Pepe accidentally came into the family… better yet, fell head first into it. The orphaned crow baby fell down a 100-foot-tall tree. Luckily, he survived, thanks to Xena’s family.
Pepe stayed outside, enjoying the sun during the day and only going inside to spend the night. He didn’t have much contact with the hoomans except during feeding time.
Pepe learned how to walk in this family. He also learned how to fly. He became a real crow and a part of this unusual family.
As time flew by, Pepe started acting more like other crows. He started hanging out with them, too.
What once were daily visits turned into weekly get togethers. Pepe’s family is sad because he doesn’t spend so much time with them anymore. Even Xena misses him!
Every time he comes around, they all enjoy their moments. Xena acts as a big sister, sharing everything she can with her wild buddy.
While it may seem so sweet to own a crow that gets along with your dog so well, we have to admit one thing: crows are still wild animals.
It’s so great to see that Jo and her family realize all animals should be where they belong. But, we can all agree that by having an occasional, unusual buddy like Pepe, the crow is uber cool.
That’s not all, folks!
Pepe and Xena enjoy their popularity on Instagram. You can follow them here if you think crows are awesome and should indeed be buddies with German Shepherds.
