A heart-warming story comes from Lawrence, Kansas, where a 10-year-old German Shepherd dog says his last goodbye to his police companions.
Cheeseburger, or simply “CB,” has been a good boy for almost a decade, but now’s the time for some well-deserved rest. After great service, he’s finally ready to hang up his leash and start chasing squirrels and birds instead of chasing bad guys.
One Last Goodbye To His Work Buddies
Cheeseburger joined the Lawrence Kansas Police Department in 2015 when he was only two years old. This beloved German Shepherd has been serving his community for eight straight years, being a multi-purpose K9 trained in narcotics detection, handler protection, and de-escalation.
He has always been an impeccable officer that served his community to the best of his abilities, and now the time has come for Cheeseburger to say his last goodbye to everyone at the office!
To celebrate his retirement properly, his department decided to throw him one last party and reward Cheeseburger with his favorite snacks!
Friends of the K9 Vest, Midwest, which continuously supports the department, also attended the party, while Hy-Vee took care of the cake that was shaped like an actual cheeseburger.
This gorgeous boi had the farewell that he truly deserved, filled with laughter, nice pets, and lots of snacks!
He even got a beautiful painting as a thank you that will always remind his new family of how great of a K9 Cheeseburger was!
He Stays In The Lawrence Family
The good news is that Cheeseburger stays in the Lawrence family, going home with Sergeant Ron Ivener and his family. Together with his four kids and his other dog, Monty, Sergeant Ron hopes to provide Cheeseburger with lots of fun and a loving home.
“Cheeseburger is certainly well positioned to get plenty of treats, toys, and restful trots in his well-earned golden years,” wrote the LKPD on their Facebook.
After a wonderful partnership with Corporal Weidl, this German boy is about to embark on a completely different, yet exciting adventure with his new family members! He may not be chasing bad guys anymore, but he sure will have a lot to do in his new home!
Even though this was a heart-wrenching moment for Weidl, he’s aware that Cheeseburger needs some rest, as he has entered his senior years and he deserves to finally take it easy.
Stay Well, Cheeseburger!
Even though he’s in his golden years, this 10-year-old boy is still enthusiastic about his daily outings and hanging out with people! He is certainly going to a lovely home where he can continue to fulfill his purpose without being pushed to his limits.
We thank him for all those years of service and making his Lawrence community a better place! Get some well-deserved rest, Cheeseburger! You were a good boi!
