However, this story is truly something else, and it perhaps best illustrates how a starving dog never gave up hope and fought with everything he had left just to survive.
A Gut-Wrenching Story
A family in Cleveland, Texas, was going about their daily business until they saw a starving, broken dog collapse in their back yard.
The homeowners tagged ThisIsHouston on their social media and called for help. A rescuer named Laura arrived at the place and saw the poor dog in horrible condition.
He used all of the energy left in him just to lift his head, and he showed them that he was still alive. Laura immediately rushed him to the closest ER they could find.
During the whole trip there, she constantly kept checking on the dog to make sure he was still breathing.
When they finally arrived for what felt like an eternity, he was given the proper care and treatment.
He was extremely malnourished and it took a while before he could just get up and move a little. The veterinarians made sure to keep him on a strict diet to get his weight back to normal.
A Miraculous Recovery
It didn’t take long for the dog, now named Jake, to start taking interest in playing again.
A man named Tom, who works for ThisIsHouston, told The Dodo:
Jake was amazing. As much pain as he was in, he still had a good attitude, and he still wanted to go, and he still wanted to play. Even if he is just sitting there, you can tell he’s just loving life. He’s just happy to be alive.
The staff said that he wasn’t interested in toys at first, but as he regained his strength over a few weeks, he started playing a lot more.
One month later, Jake made an amazing recovery. His fur is growing back, his weight is almost back to normal, and he is even happier and more playful than a few weeks ago.
Laura said: You could just spend hours with him in the back yard, just tossing balls, and he would never get tired.
Not too long after his recovery, a family decided to adopt Jake and welcome him into their home.
The family also had another dog, named Jasper, who was not typically friendly to others. After meeting Jake, however, they quickly became best friends and Jake now finally has a best friend, a loving family, and a warm home.
