We all have bad hair days. But, for Seren, a GSD cross, those days lasted a bit longer than usual. What was supposed to be a regular summer cut turned into a hilarious mistake and a crime against all dog hairstyles.
Seren’s owner just wanted a little touch up so his pooch would be ready for hot summer days. Little did he know, when he came back at the arranged time, Seren wouldn’t look like Seren anymore.
The Language Barrier That Made All That Mess
Leigh Simmons and his wife, Kat, moved to Shenzhen, China, for work. Living abroad brings many difficulties, and probably the biggest one is the language barrier. Mandarin Chinese is one of the most challenging languages to learn.
Simmons and his family were doing well, but his Mandarin skills weren’t something to brag about.
But, a man has to do what a man has to do. We all must adapt in order to succeed. So, Leigh continued living in Shenzhen like nothing was bothering him. Everything went okay until one day, when he decided it was time to take Seren, their GSD mix, to the groomer.
How hard could it be? All Seren needed was a summer cut… a light trim that would make hot Shenzhen days tolerable.
When Simmons arrived at the groomer’s place, he found out that the groomer spoke no English at all. Well, that was a bummer.
Still, Simmons somehow managed to explain to the groomer what he wanted. He mimicked a buzzing sound and everything seemed so clear.
“The woman spoke no English and I speak very, very little Chinese. I ended up miming shaving the dog and I made a ‘bzzz’ sound. The woman nodded and told me to come back at 4.
This was Seren before his fancy grooming appointment.

A Haircut They’ll Never Repeat
Later that day, when Simmons came to pick up his dog, he got the surprise of a lifetime.
Expecting he would find his pup minimally groomed and prepped for the summer, Simmons was shocked with what he saw.
Remember Seren’s before look? Well, this was his new do.
“I came back and saw the dog, and just started laughing hysterically. I could barely stand up, I was laughing so much,” said Simmons, for The Irish Sun.
Poor Seren looked like something that came out of a nightmare. He looked more like raw chicken than a dog.
“The poor women working there were so confused. Everyone in China has a poodle. Lots of them have this style.”
Well, looks like not every pooch can pull off a Poodle’s signature hairstyle.
Simmons paid only around $10 for this edgy haircut. And, left laughing like crazy.
Needless to say he will start learning Mandarin, at least for his dog’s sake.
At least there was really no harm done and Seren’s coat will be nice and thick once again.
