Kristen Lee, a canine lover from Becker, Minnesota, has always felt an unbreakable bond with these four-legged furballs. Her dream was not only to have one, but to be a foster to as many puppies in need as possible!
When she moved to a house with a big yard, she was finally able to pursue that dream. The only problem was – her three-year-old Pittie, Remi, has always been anxious around other dogs.
But, one day, as the first foster puppy set paw in their loving home – Remi’s reaction was totally unexpected!
The Unexpected Relationship With Puppies
Deep down, Kristen has always felt the need to help the less fortunate and abandoned doggos that had no one in this world. Her idea of contributing was to foster puppies through PJ’s Rescue, the facility from Duluth, Minnesota.
However, she was quite skeptical, as she didn’t know how Remi would take this. He has always been great around people, but there was something inside of him that was pushing him away from other dogs.
She always assumed that Remi would be her only doggo due to his anxiety around other canines until she finally decided to give fostering a try!
When the first foster entered their home, Kristen came to the most amazing realization – Remi had the most natural affinity towards puppies!
She was very careful, making sure Remi and the puppy felt comfortable being in the same room, but as soon as he spotted a little brother inside the house – he became the ultimate big brother right off the bat!
Remi – The Pawesomest Role Model
Remi wasn’t territorial, nor did he ever display aggressive behavior towards his little foster siblings. Quite the opposite – it was as if he tried to always be careful around them, making sure they feel as safe and comfortable as possible!
“He has been the best foster brother to these puppies who come to us needing a safe place and to feel wanted,” says Kristen.
And, the most amazing thing was – the puppies looked up to Remi as well! In a way, he was their role model.
They almost exclusively always tried to imitate him behavior-wise. Many of them even picked up Remi’s mannerisms, such as his unique way of sitting – with legs splayed on the side.
Remi somehow understood the importance of being a good big brother and he took his role very seriously! He always displayed caution during playtime and amazing gentleness when engaging with them!
Eventually, the puppies could literally “sleep” in his mouth, as they’d always stick their head in his mouth while he was yawning, but he didn’t mind at all.
He’s The Perfect Partner
Kristen couldn’t be more grateful for having Remi in her life as a pet – and her fostering partner!
“3 years ago today, I adopted my best friend. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love this big cuddly baby more than words.”
He’s literally the ideal pet who has been of great help with all the puppies she takes in. And, if it wasn’t for him – the whole fostering process would be much more difficult for sure!
We hope that Kristen and Remi will continue doing such a noble job for many more years to come!
