Let’s play a game…
Imagine you’re working at a drive-thru and someone new just pops up for an order.
You baffle your standard welcoming words: Welcome to Dairy Queen, may I take your order?
And, all you can hear from the other side of the microphone are whines, growls, occasional barks, heavy breathing, and, of course, slobbering.
Is someone playing jokes with you?
No, because when you check the camera, you see a van full of dogs – big dogs – precisely Great Danes, sitting impatiently in the back, trying to give you their order.
Those are the kind of customers you don’t get to see every day.
When three Michigan Danes came to visit two of their friends in Florida, they all decided that going for an ice cream would be the pawfect get-together activity.
Will the language barrier stop them from getting their much-wanted vanilla ice cream?
A Van Full Of Great Danes
Not every dog has a huge passion for vanilla ice cream. Still, not every dog is a Great Dane like Lady Darla. Her vanilla obsession has transferred to her siblings, too. All three Michigan Great Danes – Lady Darla, Eva, and Ryder, love their sweet cones more than any other treat.
The Great Dane community in the States isn’t really huge, so owners all seem to know each other. Through the power of meet-ups and social media, Darla’s crew, also known as the Squirrel Patrol, got introduced to a couple of sweet Floridians – Maddie and Ellie.
The friendship grew strong, even between their owners, so they occasionally went on trips to Florida and back.
During one of those trips, the pups clearly made a demand that they wanted ice cream – one for each. And, not just any kind of ice cream. They wanted Dairy Queen.
What else could the owners do than to hop into aunt Sue’s caravan with folded-back seats and head off to get their treats?
Needless to say that the Danes were just too excited. For starters, they were going for a car ride. And, when they figured out they were stopping at a drive-thru window, their happiness was too big for that small car.
Sure enough, when the window rolled down, all five Great Dane heads popped out and tried to order for themselves. You can only imagine how that went.
Luckily, their owner knew what to order because for these Danes, their DQ order never changes.
Vanilla ice cream SUNDANES for everyone!
The amount of slobbering and mouths smacking together was unbelievable! These pups devoured their cones, with Lady Darla being the fastest eater as usual.
Is That All?
If you believe this short adventure is all, then you’re so wrong.
On their way back home, the gang had another adventure and you wouldn’t believe what happened.
After enjoying their delish treats, something started to rumble in one of the pup’s tummies.
Lady Darla did something that wasn’t so ladyish. She had a massive blowout in the van, and all the other Danes stepped in it.
“…Mom and Maddie and Ellie’s Mom crying, laughing, and gagging the whole way back to Dane Manor,” said Lady Darla in one of her social media posts.
Guess someone’s tummy was too excited to keep down their daily dose of ice cream.
The Florida trip and the drive to DQ that went viral happened in March of 2022. Unfortunately, a couple of months later, in August, Lady Darla closed her eyes for the final time and went down the vanilla ice cream road.
She left a heartbroken family behind her, and a bunch of friends that honor her to this day by eating vanilla ice cream on SUNDANES.
Rest in peace, Lady Darla. We hope there’s a bunch of ice cream waiting for you on the other side of the rainbow.
