Driving brings so much delight to many dogs. As soon as they hear the keys jingling, they’re ready to head out and enjoy a new adventure in their four-wheeled vehicle.
But, driving can also be such a pain for us drivers, especially when we get stuck in traffic.
While some areas have light traffic, others, like Tampa, Florida, usually give headaches. A friend of mine living in Tampa once told me that this city has been declared as the 12th worst city for traffic.
And, it indeed is.
Waiting at a red traffic light brings no joy, but these two drivers found a way to make every step of their journey delightful.
How?
They brought their furry friends along!
Free Dog Kisses At The Red Traffic Light
A woman named Celina Romera was trying to ignore the busy traffic that day in Tampa. It was December 15th, 2020, a rather pleasant and warm day for the Christmas season.
As everyone was rushing, making their way downtown, Celina stopped at a red traffic light and noticed a man stepping out of his car in front of her.
He wasn’t alone.
Nestled in his big arms was a tiny puppy.
Celina immediately grabbed her phone and started recording because the man had a plan that would melt the hearts of everyone around them.
Waiting in the other lane for the lights to switch was a silver car with a German Shepherd riding in the back. The gorgeous dog had his head out of the window, enjoying the weather and the attention.
The two pups had clearly seen each other through the window, so the man from the right lane decided to introduce them.
He brought over the smol pupper and allowed the German Shepherd to sniff him, and give him so many dog kisses and licks. The GSD was so excited to meet the new buddy that he almost jumped out of the car.
Unfortunately, their encounter was brief, lasting until the lights switched to green.
The silver car drove away, and the man went into his car and took the puppy, also leaving as the lights switched.
Celina, who was behind the camera, was so touched with this scene that she didn’t even mind that she had to wait a few extra seconds until the man returned to his seat.
You don’t get to see smol puppers and big doggos sharing love so spontaneously every day.
However, as someone who considers herself a dog expert, I do have to point out a few things that aren’t sugary sweet about this situation. This is only to prevent further mistakes or accidents from happening.
Yes, it is sweet that the big dog showered the puppy in kisses.
Yes, it’s super unusual to see something like this happen at a traffic light.
But still, it isn’t completely harmless.
The whole situation would have taken a wrong turn if the GSD was acting territorial. We all know what German Shepherds are like, right? They’re big, mighty protectors that don’t joke with their people or belongings.
That car was the dog’s safe zone, his home away from home, and bringing another dog near it could’ve ended up with the GSD being aggressive and defensive.
It’s important to learn that approaching a dog in such a place, or even approaching a dog like a GSD should be done with care. The owner should always be present, ensuring the dog that any newcomer will not do him harm.
Next time, if you think of doing anything similar like this situation, think it through. Sometimes, no matter how sweet something looks, it may take a different path than you’d planned.
