It’s heartbreaking to be reminded of how cruel some dog owners can be toward their pooches. They abandon them and leave them in dangerous conditions without caring if they survive.
The puppies in our following story lost faith in humanity after their owners left them in an abandoned basement without any food.
Let’s follow their rescue and their path as they discover love and learn to trust humans again.
A Heartbreaking Scene
On January 2nd, 2023, CC RezQs Regina, a rescue group, received a call about puppies who were abandoned in a basement in a rural area.
Although they knew they didn’t have any open space at their rescue center, they went to save the puppies right away.
Once they arrived, they headed to the basement. As they approached it, they could hear the sound of tiny puppy paws.
When the rescue team came down the stairs, they saw the puppies who were looking curiously at them. Not knowing that these were their saviors, some puppies started barking. The rescuers were brokenhearted when they saw the terrible conditions they were living in.
Some puppies were hiding under a furnace, others were behind a shattered mirror on broken glass. Some of them were hiding among the pipes and garbage.
Picking up and rescuing the siblings proved to be difficult because they didn’t trust humans anymore. Humans betrayed their trust when they abandoned them at this place.
Some puppies barked again in protest and others retreated to the corner of the basement.
“They didn’t know if we were safe people or if we were dangerous. It was heartbreaking that they were so afraid,” Stephanie Senger, CC RezQs Regina adoption and foster coordinator said.
Discovering Love
The rescuers managed to catch the puppies and bring them to the rescue center.
It was a big change for the sibling puppies. They never knew what life outside the deserted basement was like. The rescue staff did everything they could to help them get used to the new environment.
They took care of them and showered them with affection. It was the first time the siblings felt loved and cared for.
“They have no idea how kind humans can be. They have no idea how amazing their lives can be,” the rescue wrote on Facebook .
The rescue staff didn’t want to separate the siblings, so they lived together in a foster home for some time.
After they became confident, they were then ready to go their separate ways. The pups found their loving families who fell in love with them and promised to cherish them forever.
One of the new moms dedicated tender words to her puppy: “I love you Charlie. I never planned on foster failing, but I can’t imagine my life without you.”
These innocent puppies started their lives in miserable conditions. Thanks to the good humans, they learned the meaning of love and trust, and they managed to leave their past behind. Now, they can soak in the love they always deserved.
