Every mother would do anything to protect her kids. She is there to find them shelter, food, and water, and what is most important, to provide them with the true motherly love that they desperately need.
Dogs bring that to another level, as mama dogs do not even let anyone get close to her puppies, especially when she is nursing them.
However, the problem arises when the dog and her puppies do not have adequate conditions. Even if you really want to help her, she doesn’t have enough trust to let you do anything.
Today’s story speaks about one rescue mission of a dog and her many little puppies from conditions that no dog deserves.
A Rescue Mission After Two Long Weeks
Whenever someone would call the team of rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis to check on a mama dog that was hanging around on the streets of St. Louis, she would just disappear from the radar when they came.
It was like she sensed wrongly that they were stalking her and wished her harm. For a stray dog that was nursing puppies, it was not a surprise that she was extremely careful.
However, for two long weeks, Donna and Natalie, members of the team, didn’t give up. And, their patience paid off one day.
“I finally spotted her, and just followed her down a sidewalk,” Donna said for The Dodo and added, “But wasn’t an option to just pick her up and not find the puppies.”
So, she decided to follow her all the way to the basement of an abandoned house. When she came in, a staircase was in front of her, and she immediately saw the dog with her puppies on the top.
It was a very delicate moment because she was nursing them, so Donna decided not to interrupt until they were finished. She just said a few words to the dog, hoping to gain at least some of her trust.
After a few minutes, she called Natalie to assist her. Together, they were able to get a leash on her and finally get her into the car.
Of course, the mama dog was very upset because her puppies were left behind. But, as soon as they were able to get them in the car as well, the smile was back on her face.
In that moment, it was as if she gained complete trust in these two hoomans. Natalie and Donna sure knew what they were doing.
It was finally time to bring the puppies and their mama to the shelter.
Finally, A True Life In A Real Home
“And then once we were at the shelter, she was the sweetest dog,” Donna said. Like she was some other dog.
She was happy, playful, and wagging her tail. Her puppies were numbered, and finally, they were all in the comfortable place they deserved.
She even had a bath after so long, and she was truly delighted because of the treatment she was getting.
This poor, exhausted mama dog finally experienced a real transformation from a dirty, abandoned house to a warm bath and lots of love.
But, that was just the beginning of the good things that she was going to experience, as not long after that, she got a real home with a loving family.
“The puppies did end up going to foster, but mom went right into a home,” Donna happily confirmed.
Her puppies were taken care of and she was already enjoying a good life. Everything sort of fell into place overnight and this story got its happy ending after all.
