In my time writing these stories, one of the common themes with abandoned dogs is the distrust they feel towards humans. Sometimes, many of them will run at the sight of other people simply because they are so afraid.
Who knows how many of them have gone through abuse and neglect in their life to the point where they feel like they can’t ever trust another human.
In this story, we will talk about a dog who was refusing help out of fear of getting hurt again.
Alone And Hopeless
In her time working as an animal rescuer in California, Suzette Hall has saved a great number of dogs, and her mission doesn’t stop. However, not all her rescues are simple or successful.
One of Hall’s more challenging missions was when she had to save Worth, who was a small white dog.
She spent so much time waiting to see if she would let her guard down so Hall could help her. Suzette Hall said to The Dodo: I was there day and night for so many days in a row.
She tried all of her usual strategies for catching the dog. She continued by saying: I tried traps, I tried food, I tried everything. But nothing would work because the people working there would chase her away.
At one point, she was very close to rescuing her when she was cornered in a fenced-in truck yard. However, as fate would have it, someone opened the gate of the yard and the dog managed to escape again.
Worth was no longer seen in this area, so now Hall had to expand her search.
She said: I kept going back every day hoping that she would come back, but she never did. I thought for sure she was gone.
A New Lead
Weeks had gone by and it seemed like there was not a single trace of the dog, but luckily, one night, Hall received a call about a small dog walking around a small neighborhood in California.
When she came to the scene, she realized it was the same dog. She said: I looked, and it was her. I couldn’t believe it was her. It was unreal.
With the help from a local security guard, the two managed to corner the dog and finally catch her.
After she was safe, Hall took the dog to her car where she expressed her gratitude for being rescued.
She decided the dog would be named Worth, after the street she was on and because she was worth it.
The dog spent some time in foster care where she was taken care of, but Hall managed to find her new adoptive parents pretty quickly, which meant that they had to part ways.
She said: She was probably the hardest rescue I’ve ever done. But she was so worth every minute of it.
