It is difficult to describe in words how sad it is when an owner neglects or abandons his best canine friend, especially some puppies with special needs.
However, as long as there are good, loving people, good things happen. Soon, you will see how faith in him and determination to help him led this dog with special needs on the right path.
It helped him overcome even the most difficult problems and give birth to the most beautiful stories, such as the one that you are about to read.
They Were Determined To Give Him A New Chance
When a woman found a dog named Wheels, who belongs to the Bully breed, she confirmed to the people at Bullies And Buddies Rescue, Redondo Beach, CA, that he was in terrible condition.
This poor puppy wasn’t able to walk on his two hind legs, so they immediately went with him to the vet to see how bad the situation was.
Unfortunately, there was nothing but bad news because they found out that he had a rare disorder, known as Spina Bifida, that disabled him from walking normally.
Besides that, they also found out that, probably because of his condition, he was abused, which made his overall health even worse.
“There is really not much that can be done,” the neurologist said. “There is no surgery that can fix it, so I think that you should euthanize him.”
One of the employees of the Rescue, Jennifer, definitely didn’t agree with that and was determined to do whatever was necessary to help this puppy and give him a new chance at life.
He Felt Like A Rockstar When He Stood On His Four Feet Again
Soon, Jennifer and the other people from the rescue team found him a foster home in Redondo Beach, where his new foster mom, @cjspetstaycation, was also full of love and motivated to get this dog on the right path.
Of course, together with her, Jennifer and a whole team of people continued to participate in this story, and they did everything to give the best to little Wheels.
While they fussed over him, his foster mom, Jennifer, and the rest of the team were the most patient people in the world.
Together with him, they literally went step by step in order to reach the desired goal, which was to see him on all fours again.
He was regularly taken to neurologists and veterinarians, where he received all the necessary medication and therapy.
He also went swimming, which made him very happy, as he was doing well and could navigate the water without needing much help.
They got him a specialized wheelchair that helped him walk independently, and after a while, they let him try without it.
Although it was still not at a satisfactory level, progress was visible, and all this gave Wheels confidence and faith that one day, he would be able to stand on all four legs.
And, it wasn’t long before Wheels was able to stand for over a minute and even walk a little without anyone helping him. It was a turning point for him – a moment of true happiness in which he felt like a real “Superstar”.
Finally, A Loving Family He Truly Deserves
Now that Wheels was able to stand and walk independently, his rehabilitation was almost complete.
Still, this special-needs dog needed his forever home. But, Jennifer and the others knew that it was not at all easy because the Bully breed alone is difficult to adopt, and if you add special needs to that, the complication reaches a new level.
However, this dog seemed to have been followed by a lucky star and he was determined to succeed in the end.
Namely, it wasn’t long after they started looking for his forever home when a family who had been following Wheel’s brave fight for a long time contacted them.
Julie and Matthew were ideal people for him because they were destined to have an understanding of his needs. They already had several dogs with similar problems, so they knew what they were getting into.
His new family, as well as his new canine brothers and sisters, could not have accepted him better. It was a really easy transition, and already, on the first day, he was playful with his loving family.
In his new life, it was as if all problems suddenly disappeared. He walked, jumped, played, and cuddled with his new parents.
It was a new Wheels – one that was freed from all weights and disadvantages… one that was given such strength by its new life that it could easily handle even the most difficult burdens.
