Zhuzha, the poor stray dog, was found by locals a couple of months ago. She was roaming the streets, looking for food and a place to settle. Unfortunately, she didn’t look okay at all, as she had a swollen belly and could barely walk.

She had an ear tag and stitches from surgery, which indicated that Zhuzha was recently spayed by the city’s neutering program.

The rescue team of the Love Furry Friends organization came to the site as soon as the locals notified them. They were told that no one in particular had the money to subject Zhuzha to medical treatment, so the poor dog was all alone on the streets.

The team noticed Zhuzha’s heavy breathing, which was the sign of a progressing disease. They knew that this dog needed urgent medical treatment or she could face tragic consequences.

They picked her up, put a leash around her neck, and slowly put her in a car. The first stop was the animal clinic.

Blood Tests Showed Heartworms

The blood test showed that Zhuzha had heartworms – a progressive disease caused by the parasite called Dirofilaria immitis that manifests severe symptoms such as anemia, lung disease, organ failure, and unfortunately, death.

“With such a disease, dogs that don’t receive any treatment simply cannot survive”, said the LFF team.

The reason why she had a swollen stomach was due to an abnormal heart function. Namely, over 10 liters of liquid had accumulated in Zhuzha’s abdominal cavity, causing serious swelling.

Without Treatment, Zhuzha Wouldn’t Survive

According to the vet, Zhuzha would’ve definitely not survived without prompt treatment.

LFF’s reaction was timely, and this was the reason why Zhuzha was saved in the first place. She was already in the progressing stage of her disease, only days away from facing fatal consequences.

Luckily, Zhuzha was found and saved on time, and she then had the chance to fully recover in the clinic, all thanks to people who donate their money to Love Furry Friends, so they can provide help for hundreds of stray dogs.

Only ten days after her surgery, Zhuzha already felt so much better. The team visited her a couple of times during her recovery, making sure that she was getting better.

Four weeks later, she was fully recovered and released from the hospital. All the liquid that had accumulated in her belly was now gone.

Zhuzha was taken in by LFF, which made sure to prepare her for a new home. She was provided with constant care, daily walks, and socialization training that was crucial for her future family life.

She was surrounded by other rescue dogs, socializing and slowly adapting to a group life, which was not easy, as Zhuzha spent the most part of her life alone on the streets.

Zhuzha is now a healthy female dog looking for a forever home. She’s up for adoption, waiting for the right match. Hopefully, she will find her perfect home and have her happily ever after.

She truly deserves it, as she’s a wonderful dog. Although she’s still kind of an introvert, she’s slowly turning into a beautiful family pet.
