They say that humanity’s true test consists of its mercy towards the animals. But, sometimes many collectively fail when they don’t help those that need help at their worst times.
One such case comes from Texas, where an abandoned Pittie girl witnessed true brutality. This poor girl was dumped on a street by her previous owners with what can even barely be called a bed.
But, her sad story doesn’t end there. The Pittie, later named Harley, was repeatedly abused and chased down by a group of kids, which made her completely lose her faith in humanity.
All alone, scared, and traumatized, Harley needed at least one human to show her mercy. And, to her luck, one day, that one human arrived at the perfect hour!
Harley Had A Rough Start
Judy Obregon was the woman of the hour! This giant-hearted rescuer and the founder of TAO Animal Rescue, from Fort Worth, Texas, immediately rushed into action when she heard about Harley’s case.
When she first saw Harley, her ears were practically mutilated by someone and she was in terrible condition. Harley was lying on a doggo bed (or, at least, on what looked like one). She was evidently scared, but Judy took things slowly.
“She was so exhausted, she has been through hell and back. I can’t even imagine what was going through this poor baby’s mind when she was being chased down. Sadly someone cut and I mean CUT her poor little ears,” the TAO stated on their official Facebook.
She was told that Harley was chased by a group of kids on a 4-wheeler, and that she has been distressed ever since. On top of all that, Harley didn’t have a proper shelter or someone who would feed her.
Judy slowly approached her and offered this poor girl some food. Harley was reluctant to surrender into her rescuer’s arms for about 45 minutes, but after she realized that Judy wasn’t gonna hurt her – she gave in.
The minute Judy put her arm on her to pat her was the breakthrough moment for Harley. For the first time in forever, this abandoned girl felt a tiny piece of hope!
Learning How To Trust Again
As a long-time rescuer, Judy knew that only time heals a broken heart. She let Harley adapt at her own pace, and in just a few short months, she surprised everyone!
She slowly started to come out of her shell, and soon, she overcame the fear of humans. It was truly rewarding watching Harley learn how to be a dog again.
“She has overcome that fear of humans, and has learned that good humans do exist,” the TAO team wrote.
Judy and the team made sure she underwent the spaying procedure. She was also treated with medicated baths and antibiotics due to skin issues she had, and she tested negative for heartworms.
Off To A Furever Home
After a terrible start in life, Harley finally found her special person at the beginning of 2023. And, that someone was Chris!
“We are so happy she gets to live the life she deserves with a family that adopted from us before…Thank you so much , Chris for opening your heart and home to not just one but two of our once abandoned,” wrote the TAO team on Facebook.
Before Harley, Chris had already adopted a dog named King from TAO rescue in 2019, and he was now ready to make extra room in his loving home for Harley, too!
The two walked into a new life as if they had always been best friends! Harley was so happy to finally have a home of her own, and Chris added a set of paws to his furry family.
Once an abandoned Pittie fending for herself on a street, Harley’s now living her best moments with the best pack ever!
