Rescue missions can be quite unpredictable. Some of them are on the easier side, with the animal complying right away, while some animals need a bit more persuading, but some end up being very difficult.
Today’s rescue was one of those difficult ones.
Difficult Rescue
When Donna Lochmann, chief life saving officer of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Missouri, and her team saw a little family seeking shelter in an open window of a crawl space, they knew they had to help.
They managed to capture the mama dog and two of her puppies right away with little to no effort. However, the rest weren’t as easy to get to.
The rest of the puppies ran into the crawlspace and hid in the very back, making Donna get down on the ground and crawl into the claustrophobic space.
“There was not enough room to even be on hands and knees, she had to army crawl under there, and it went so far back. The puppies knew the space well, but we didn’t!” wrote the St. Louis rescue on a Facebook post.
When Donna finally got to the adorable, yet frightened pups, she noticed there were four more of them.
However, the question now was how would she get them out.
One By One
Donna came to the conclusion that the best way to get them out was one by one. So, she would grab one puppy, crawl out, hand it to her team, and crawl right back in for the others.
After some time rolling in the dust and crawling around narrow spaces, Donna finally managed to get all four of the pups to safety.
“We are pleased to tell you that we are very dirty, but we have 6 perfect, chubby babies and one wonderful mama all safe and sound!” they concluded.
The four pups were reunited with their mom and siblings, and were immediately taken to the vet to get a well-needed checkup!
Final Word
This incredibly difficult rescue proves what rescuers are willing to do in order to save animals in need.
This is a profession that requires not only empathy, training, and determination, but also a lot of patience and labor.
Thank you, Donna, for yet another case where you successfully saved those who needed your help. You truly are a hero!
