We all loved surprises when we were kids. Regardless of whether grandma, grandpa, mom, or dad would buy us chocolate or a toy car, it was always a feeling of pure happiness.
However, it is an even more special feeling when we really want something, and our loved ones surprise us with just that. Not only did we get that something, but through it, we were shown the love of the person who surprised us and gave it to us.
This is exactly what happened to the hero of today’s story… a little boy from Springfield, Illinois, who will surely remember that day for the rest of his life.
Sacrificing Sweets For Sweetness
For a long time, 6-year-old Xander Mellor was dreaming about a little puppy to play with and take care of all day long.
He didn’t let anything stop him on his way, and had been saving for the past 18 months. So, he did an unprecedented thing… something that is almost unimaginable for a boy of his age. He had stopped buying sweets and all those delicious chocolates from the grocery store.
Aside from that, when his mother, Natalie Ellenburg, would come home from work, he would politely ask her for the change she had on her and deposit it in his savings jar.
This boy left nothing to chance, and it was only a matter of time before he finally met his new best friend. Little did he know that it would happen much faster than he expected.
Tears Of Pure Joy
Little Xander was not even aware that his grandparents had heard about this noble intention of his.
So, one day, they announced their arrival in Springfield. Just like any kid, Xander was happy that his grandparents were coming. However, when he heard that they were also preparing a surprise for him, he became very excited.
As excited and happy as he was, he couldn’t even dream of what he was about to experience.
That day, when he heard the car approaching, he immediately ran into the yard of the house to greet his grandparents. But, his mother told him that they would not get out of the car until he closed his eyes tightly.
When he did so, the grandmother got out of the car and told him to stretch out his arms. As he was expecting some kind of big candy or a fancy toy car, he was very surprised when he felt that something moved slightly in his hands.
When he finally opened his eyes, it was an absolute shocker. The cute little dog he wanted so much was in his arms and it immediately brought the biggest smile to his face.
Just after he realized what was happening, Xander was overwhelmed with emotions and, while hugging him tightly, he started to cry. Those were real tears of joy.
His mother recorded it all on video so that all of us could witness this touching moment of true happiness.
Life Without Him Would Be Unimaginable
From that moment on, Xander enjoyed every moment with his furry friend. He called him Marshmallow, or affectionately, Mello.
It could be said symbolically because instead of sweet candies, he got something even sweeter that he would be able to enjoy much longer.
He hugged him, caressed and looked after him, walked with him, and played with his new friend every day.
He loved him so much that he couldn’t even sleep without him. This little cutie pie brought him joy that all the candies and chocolates in the world could not have given him.
