When a rescuer named Brenda got a call about a dog who slept on an old mattress in the woods all by himself, she knew she had to come and help.
Because he looked so anxious and scared, Brenda started talking to him in a very sweet and playful tone, hoping that he wouldn’t run away.
It was as if the dog, named Hondo, understood that Brenda only tried to help, so he started following her and getting into her truck.

Since Hondo was in very bad condition, Brenda wasted no time and drove him to a shelter in Oregon.
“He definitely looked like he was in a lot of pain. His skin was obviously painful. He was completely bald,” said Brenda.
At the shelter, Hondo started to really loosen up. As Brenda talked to him more and reassured him that he was getting the help he deserved, Hondo seemed more excited.
Since he had a very severe case of the mange, he received medical attention immediately.
In no time, his personality started shining through, showing everybody what a playful and loving dog he really was.
Foster Home
Hondo stayed at the shelter for a little over a month and, unfortunately, he didn’t receive any interest from potential adopters.
Knowing how much he deserved a loving home, his shelter reached out to the South Coast Humane Society (SCHS), in Oregon, asking for help.
Seeing what a good boy he was, SCHS managed to find him a foster home the very next day!
His foster mom, Sarah, along with her son, were very excited to invite Hondo into their loving home.
“I felt horrible when I saw Hondo and the condition he was in because you don’t look like that overnight. That’s years of neglect,” said Sarah.
Sarah’s son, Seth, and Hondo, became really close right away.
Not only did Hondo receive nice and soapy baths twice a week for his mange, but he also had his days filled with playdates and cuddles.
Even though Hondo spent so much time all alone, he took instantly to any hooman he met.
Forever Home
Sarah stated that the best home for Hondo would be one with either no other dog or very submissive ones.
Hondo only requires minimal exercise, so he needs somebody who would love spending time with him outdoors, getting him on his paws.
And, luckily, Hondo got exactly what he needed.
As soon as one very loving family saw what a good boy Hondo was, they knew that he had to become a permanent member of their family.
Hondo is now finally in a warm and loving home, getting all the love and attention he deserves.
