Ligers, the hybrid between lions and tigers, are already a rare spectacle, with only around 1,000 known to exist worldwide, mostly in zoos and reserves. However, a new generation of these extraordinary animals has taken rarity to a whole new level.
Introducing Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo—the first-ever white liger cubs born from Ivory, a white lion, and Saraswati, a white tiger. These cubs are an exceptional mix, as both white lions and white tigers are incredibly rare, with only 1,200 white tigers and 300 white lions remaining in the world. The four cubs currently reside at the Myrtle Beach Safari, a renowned tiger sanctuary in South Carolina, known for its history of breeding hybrid tigers.
One of the sanctuary’s most famous residents is Hercules, the largest big cat in the world, weighing an astonishing 922 pounds. Despite his massive size, Hercules is gentle and enjoys playing with his trainers—and now, with his new liger cub grandchildren.
Although the cubs are still small, they’re growing quickly, gaining about one pound per day. Dr. Antle, the founder of the sanctuary, compares their rapid growth to the effect of an air pump inflating them.
Each cub displays a unique blend of behaviors inherited from both lions and tigers. They enjoy swimming like tigers and are sociable like lions, with distinct personalities. Apolo, the smallest cub of the group, enjoys curling up next to people and displaying affection just like a domestic cat.
Yeti, the largest and most energetic cub, always seeks attention and is already showing signs of becoming even bigger than his famous uncle, Hercules.
As they continue to grow, these cubs are expected to reach impressive sizes. Dr. Antle predicts that by the time they are two years old, they will stand about 10 feet tall and weigh 750 pounds—an incredible transformation from their current tiny sizes. Yeti, Odlin, Sampson, and Apolo are truly remarkable creatures, showcasing a rare combination of strength, grace, and charm.
Their presence is a testament to the wonders of nature, and their development will undoubtedly captivate anyone lucky enough to witness it. Watch the video below to catch a glimpse of their adorable journey.
