A wildlife photographer in South Africa recently had an unforgettable encounter when a cheetah unexpectedly approached him and gently hugged him, captured in a series of stunning photographs.
This heartwarming moment was documented by another photographer, highlighting the surprising affection that wild cheetahs can display. For photographer Sasan Amir, this was not the first time he had such a rare interaction with animals.
While visiting a wildlife sanctuary in South Africa, Amir, a 27-year-old photographer from Germany, was immersed in his work when a cheetah quietly approached and rested its head against him. Reflecting on the experience, Amir explained, “I stopped moving and stood up, signaling to the cheetah that I acknowledged it. At first, the cheetah sniffed me, then started purring and gently rubbed its head against me.”
Amir continued to explain that it took him several minutes to fully understand the uniqueness of the experience.
He had visited the sanctuary many times before and knew that this particular cheetah was accustomed to the presence of humans. This was just one of many remarkable experiences Amir had while photographing big cats over the past five years.
He emphasized that building trust with wildlife requires patience, respect, and a deep understanding of their behavior.
In another unforgettable encounter, Amir recalled a cheetah hiding in the bushes, staring at him before lying down for a nap, feeling at ease knowing he was not a threat.
