Today is my birthday but no one cares about me

Doki was a small ball of fur, full of boundless energy and an even bigger appetite. But today, his first birthday, was a stark contrast to the joyous celebrations he’d imagined. Instead of puppy parties and endless playtime, he was confined to a small, cold kennel.

His world was a monotonous cycle of eating, sleeping, and the occasional walk around the shelter. The other dogs barked and played, their youthful exuberance a constant reminder of his solitary existence. People came and went, their eyes scanning the rows of kennels, but none stopped for him.

As the day wore on, a sense of loneliness washed over him. He whined softly, his tiny body trembling. The world outside, with its promise of freedom and adventure, seemed a million miles away. He dreamt of chasing squirrels, of digging holes in the park, of the warmth of a human touch. But when he woke, reality was a harsh slap in the face.

Another day had passed, another birthday marked by solitude. Doki was a survivor, a fighter, but the weight of his young life was heavy on his small shoulders. Yet, in the depths of his puppy heart, a flicker of hope remained. Perhaps, just perhaps, tomorrow would be different.
