Why Do Breeders Like Quad French Carrier Bulldogs So Much?

Admin

The French Bulldog is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, but I doubt many of you have heard of the term triple or quad carrier French Bulldog.

It’s a relatively rare occurrence in the breed which signifies the Frenchie in question carries multiple potential rare color genes.

It also means that he’s a great candidate for producing a colorful litter.

The triple and quadruple are of particular interest because they’re just that rare, producing a potential 3 or 4 different colors in a single litter respectively.

That said, it’s not always guaranteed, and the best chances are attained when using two such carrier Frenchies.

But why do breeders like them exactly and are there any benefits to them besides color for dog owners like us? Let’s find out, shall we?

The Meaning Behind Quad Carrier French Bulldog

The quad carrier French Bulldog refers to a Frenchie that carries 4 different shading genes in their DNA, allowing them to produce up to 4 different colors per litter that they conceive.

This whole carrier business is a rather recent discovery due to various medical and technological advancements.

It gave us insights into the genes that play into the manifestation of various coat colors in dogs.

Before we assumed it was just luck (it still technically is, but a bit less so nowadays), but it turned out to heavily weigh on a few particular genes.

The best result for the manifestation of these colors comes from finding both a male and a female quad carrier.

This technically doubles the chance of one of these genes getting inherited and becoming the dominant one.

This would then lead to the deviation from the parental coat color and emerging as one of the four potential ones coded in their DNA, depending on how the genes were mixed.

Well, there are plenty, well over 20 colors, each split between the standard and non standard ones.

The standard ones are the ones sought after by people who seek to make their Frenchies into show dogs as they’re AKC certified.

However, there are plenty of others to pick from for all you folks out there who just want a dog with a little bit of color variation.

Here are all of the possible color options for French Bulldogs:

So Why Does The Quad Carrier Factor Matter To Breeders So Much?

Well, there are two reasons in particular as to why quad carrier French Bulldogs are so coveted.

The first one is rather obvious, more color variance in liters which can hike the price of some of the rarer color combos up and offers buyers more choice, in turn producing a bigger profit.

After all, breeders are human too, they want money to satisfy their needs and grow their business.

The second reason, however, is more for the good of the dogs, which is the inherent positive factors that tie into the fact that the dog has 4 different gene carriers.

This means they’re better behaved than most Frenchies, are often more intelligent than their peers, and, most importantly, are less prone to the many health issues that plague French Bulldogs like various eye problems or hip dysplasia.

That said, should the dog turn out to be a specific color, that health bonus may end up canceling itself out.

Is It Worth Getting A Quad Carrier French Bulldog?

If you can afford it, sure.

A lot of breeders will utilize the fact that they have a 4 gene carrier dog and are likely to hike prices up over it.

That said, it’s justified in this case, not just for the color, but for the health benefits, certainly.

Dogs born from quad carrier Frenchies are of better quality as we’ve already ascertained.

If you’re finding the price too steep though, I’d recommend seeking breeders who sell regular French Bulldogs instead.

An even better option would be to go to a shelter or a rescue and check whether or not they have one that you can take home for a more affordable price.

What About Getting One As A Breeder?

I’d say that it’s a solid investment, but don’t forsake your current puppers over it. They’re incredibly rare and getting one can be an arduous process on its own.

It’s best to stick to what you have right now as you should still be earning a decent amount while doing what you love.

Should you happen to luck out with both a male and a female quad carrier Frenchie specimen, you can transition then.

Don’t fret too much about it.

If you’re really adamant about it, try grabbing a triple carrier French Bulldog instead as you’re more likely to find them and won’t lose out on too much.

After all, a lot of these pups will end up with some non-standard colors which may make them a bit harder to sell than standard ones, so there are some cons to all these pros.

In Conclusion

As we’ve seen throughout the article, quad carrier French Bulldogs are some of the rarest specimens of the dog breed out there.

They’re also the ones that boast exceptional physical and mental health.

Not only are they often smarter and less prone to disease, breeding two of them gives you a high likelihood of getting an extremely colorful litter.

This provides you with a lot of variance when you’re looking to sell and the ability to put a higher price tag on your pups.

That said, the genetic detriments that can come from various colors still apply here which you should be wary of.

While not as impactful as they would be on a regular French Bulldog, they’re still not something you can avoid.

Whatever the case may be, I’m sure you’ll end up with a bunch of lovely little pups who’ll earn themselves a loving home.

Until next time, pet parents.
