Whenever I see a stray animal get the help it deserves, my heart fills up with joy.
They no longer have to endure those harsh living conditions and are finally able to find out how good love feels.
And, even though it takes a little bit of patience and effort, both for the hooman and the furry friend, I’m pretty sure we can all agree that it is so, so worth it!
A Big Matted Mess
When a pup named Toby was rescued from a dumpster, rescuers were heartbroken when they saw the condition he was in.
His fur, long, matted, and tangled, was weighing down his tired little body so much that he could barely see, let alone move.
“He was abandoned by his previous [parent], and it was clear he had been abused when [my uncle] rescued him,” Callie Crowe, one of his current caretakers, told The Dodo.
After her uncle fell ill, Crowe knew that he was no longer able to take care of Toby, so she decided to take him into her loving home.
“We have had dogs before, and a big family, so we rushed to help him,” Crowe said.
When he first arrived, Toby wasn’t feeling too confident. Not only was he still feeling overwhelmed with everything that had happened, but he was also very cautious around hoomans.
Luckily, Crowe knew exactly what to do to gain his trust.
A Life-Changing Spa
Knowing that his matted fur was taking a toll on him, Crowe gave this sweet boy a much-needed haircut.
As they took off the layers of dirty mats, they revealed the cutest little pup ever.
“We were all in shock and almost didn’t believe [he] was the same dog. It was honestly a bit emotional to see him after his transformation,” Crowe said.
As soon as he was finally free of those dirty mats, Toby felt like a brand-new dog. He was finally able to run around and see everything in front of him.
However, his little spa day was only the beginning of his transformation. Crowe now had to help him regain his trust in hoomans.
“When he finally allowed himself to be pet, it was a sigh of relief. He used to only eat in the presence of … our dad, but [has] now extended his comfort to everyone in the house. He loves to play fetch with the tennis ball and welcomes everyone that comes in the drive,” Crowe said.
Toby still tends to feel a bit anxious, but things are beginning to look better.
I am sure that with time, this sweet boy will be able to forget all about his dark past and begin to live full of love, happiness, and fun!
Crowe eagerly awaits the day when her uncle starts feeling better so that he can see Toby’s incredible new look.
“We got him cleaned up, but it was our uncle who saved Toby and gave him a second chance at life. Hopefully, they can reunite soon,” Crowe said.
