It is safe to say that Alicia and Thom McCallum are truly devoted to their dogs.
Throughout their years of fostering, they have never let anything stand in the way of this noble mission – even their wedding! When the couple living in California heard about four newborn puppies that needed a temporary home, they gladly accepted them.
Although it was only one month before the big day, they somehow managed to balance 24/7 care for the puppies with the wedding preparations, including the inevitable sleepless nights.
And, guess what?
Everything ultimately turned out way better than they expected!
The Pawfect Wedding Plan
Alicia and Thom dedicated their lives to helping dogs in need.
Before they agreed to foster these four furbabies, they had already helped many other rescue canines, including their current dogs, Ruby and Pogo.
When Thom received a call about another litter in need, he didn’t hesitate a moment. He knew that despite their tight schedule, it was the right thing to do.
And, Alicia couldn’t agree more!
The couple brought the pups home and took care of them for exactly one month before the wedding. Then, it occurred to them – why not include all four in the ceremony?
In addition to Ruby and Pogo, the foster pups had a special role on the couple’s big day. Each of them was carried down the aisle by a groomsman, and it was just pure magic!
“We put a puppy in each one of my groomsmen’s hands. It was perfect. It was a magical wedding,” Thom told The Dodo.
The idea surprised everyone, and the pups melted every heart! Just seeing them attend Thom and Alicia’s ceremony was truly adorable.

“Incorporating our fur babies + fosters in our wedding was a must. Can’t believe we pulled it off,” Alicia wrote on her Instagram.
However, that wasn’t all!
Only a couple of weeks after the wedding, Thom had one more special surprise prepared for his newly-wedded wife!
The Final Surprise Makes It Even Better
Knowing that Alicia had formed a special bond with one of the puppies, Thom decided to throw her the best post-wedding surprise ever! As soon as Kitty, the pup, turned eight weeks of age, he decided to keep her for good.
He placed Kitty in a small basket in the yard right next to a sign that read, “Forever,” and then brought Alicia in.
Her reaction was truly priceless!
“And just like that we became a family of 5. Welcome Home, Kitty McCallum,” Alicia wrote in an emotional Instagram video.
Alicia and Thom couldn’t be happier to keep Kitty in their California home.
“She’s adorable. I mean, look at her. She’s just a lover. She’s fluffy and she’s just a sweetheart, really,” says Alicia.
She’s already acclimated to Pogo and Ruby and has the best time with the family. Her other brothers and sisters were already adopted into new families, leaving Kitty to stay with those she loved the most.
Alicia and Thom will continue their noble mission, now as a family of five! We wish them many more successful foster stories down the road!
