I often think about how we as humans got a bit too comfortable seeing horrible stuff happen to animals without doing anything about it.
And that is not a great thing. A lot of people lack empathy for dogs and the result is that we have way too many animals who need help but can’t get it.
I know for sure that this dog was in the same boat. He was seriously malnourished and lived basically in the middle of nowhere.
Despite this, nobody helped him until a kind man noticed just how much he was suffering and rushed to help.
He Was So Weak
After the rescuers drove nearly 100 kilometers to reach the location, they were finally able to find the dog. He looked so defeated, almost like he had given up all hope of recovering.
The pup was very dirty and malnourished. It was really hard to tell when he had his last meal. He was sleeping in the grass but started approaching his rescuers as they arrived.
The poor dog could barely even walk, but he seemed grateful that somebody finally noticed him. He let these wonderful people take him and place him gently into their car.
Because it was already getting late, there was a small chance of any vet clinic being open, so they took him home first that night.
The very next day, he was at the vet, and they gave him a thorough examination. He was dirofilaria positive, which basically means he has heartworms.
Another problem was that he had a skin disease and showed signs of a serious infection. On top of that, he had anemia.
This was all a lot, and it certainly wouldn’t be easy, but his rescuers were there with him every step of the way.
Charlie’s Transformation
He received full treatment, which meant antibiotics, vitamins, and a new diet to help him regain weight. The pup also receives warm baths regularly to help with his skin problems.
The vets noticed that he was vomiting something that most certainly was not food. There was a chance that he ate something he shouldn’t have in his isolation to deal with hunger.
It is now catching up to him, but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad. He is also coughing a bit, but the vets hope he will start healing soon.
Just when things looked up, the dog, now named Charlie, tested positive for distemper. Everything was going wrong for him.
After about a week, his treatment finally started working. He was eating better, and his mood improved. He was doing a lot better.
Every day, he was doing a bit better. Charlie was even allowed to play with other dogs at the shelter, which meant that they were on the right track.
His rescuers showered him with affection, and he underwent an absolutely amazing transformation in almost six months. He is completely unrecognizable now.
The shelter staff placed him on an adoption list and are trying to find a forever home for him. After a thorough search, his rescuers thought they finally found someone for him.
His family adopted him shortly after, and he was finally given a chance to start over. Charlie loves his new parents and siblings, and I am so glad to see he is living such an amazing life.
