Hero Rescuer Saves Rottweiler Mom And Puppies From Truck Trapped In California Wildfire

Admin

The recent Park Fire has taken its toll on Butte County, California. Residents living nearby were forced to evacuate their homes, leaving everything behind.

Among them was a dog owner with his two Rottweilers and their puppies who tried to escape the fire when his truck stopped working.

Sadly, he had to abandon the truck, leaving the entire dog family in what seemed like a hopeless situation.

The man pleaded to responders with the exact location of the truck, hoping for the best.

“The resident had to leave the truck behind, which included two adult Rottweilers and their puppies. The owner provided responders with the location of the truck, but the area was not immediately accessible due to the fire,” Butte County Sheriff wrote in a Facebook statement.

Luckily, one human decided to give the rescue a shot. Trevor Skraggs, of Butte County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue, California, traveled to the wildfire zone with a helicopter to try and save the family of canines in need.

Dropped off more than a mile away from the said location, Skraggs immediately rushed into action. He scouted the area high and low until he finally stumbled upon the truck that matched the description.

When he finally opened it, he found the momma Rottweiler and all of her puppies alive, but extremely tired and thirsty. Sadly, the male Rottie didn’t make it.

Skraggs knew that time was of the essence, and that the real challenge was to guide the furry family back to the helicopter. Yet, he did it amazingly!

After helping the Rottweiler family gain their much-needed strength with some water and a protein bar, the man got to work.

“After giving the mother and her puppies water and bites from his protein bar, Trevor was able to get the five of them to follow him 1.5 miles back to the helicopter,” BCS added.

Within hours, the dog family was safe and sound in the helicopter with their savior. Despite the tragedy and the fact that all of them needed to recover, the dogs seemed so grateful for being saved.

Skraggs successfully transported the dogs to North Valley Animal Disaster Group, where they were taken in for further care.

“Mr. Skaggs, thank you for your big heart for rescuing those dogs. You’re a real hero with your heart in a great place. Can’t thank you enough,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Thank you so much for helping and saving them,” another one added.

The momma and her puppies are still in the process of recovery, but they will soon be reunited with their family.

“Mom and the puppies are doing great, and the owner is reuniting with them this evening. We will miss them,” NVADG wrote on Facebook.

Thank you, Trevor! We definitely need more people like you!
