Every dog dreams of living in a warm home with a loving family. Unfortunately, many canines are forced to fend for themselves on the street or live between the four walls of a kennel.
We all know that the shelter is not ideal for dogs, but sadly, numerous statistics show that it is still a home for many of them. To make matters worse, many furry fellows end up in that cold place after being surrendered by their owners.
It is one of the saddest situations a shelter employee can witness, and one Golden Retriever, who suddenly found himself in that place after living in a warm home for two and a half years, is the best example.
This confused Goldie couldn’t stop looking for his owner who never came back.
From Tears To Smile
When this heartless man came to Border Tails Rescue in Northbrook, Illinois, to surrender his Golden Retriever, Sky, to their shelter, the employees welcomed the dog with open arms.
Sadly, no matter how many kisses they showered him with, he was still very sad because his owner was suddenly gone. Poor Sky was looking for his favorite person and couldn’t understand why he was nowhere to be found. It was a truly heartbreaking sight.
According to the TikTok video the shelter posted on May 26, 2024, via their account, @bordertailsrescue, the owner surrendered him after the two new puppies came to his home.
“The owner stated that Sky did not like the puppies, so he decided to surrender this sweet boy,” it was stated in the video. “2.5 years later… Sky is now left confused, betrayed, and alone.”
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Sky got the happy news – a loving family who wouldn’t give up on him so easily came to pick Sky up at the shelter in Northbrook, Illinois.
Although the shelter staff were ultimately delighted by the happy ending, they still felt the need to send a message to all those people who think like the man who left Sky.
“A pet is a commitment,” they wrote. “Before bringing an animal into your life, please consider if you will be able to provide for them for the rest of their life.”

As it is a video that breaks your heart and makes you smile at the same time, it is not a surprise that it attracted a lot of attention.
Some people commented that they were over the moon because of the happy ending, while others expressed their disappointment because of the heartbreaking surrender.

The third reacted to the happy part of the story: “Thank you for the update so happy he was adopted..🐶🙏🥰.”
Thank God this story had its happy ending and that is the most important thing. Yet, the shelter staff hope it will not end there, but that it will help many other dogs replace the kennel with a warm home as well.
“There’s so many dogs in need of rescuing. We are so thrilled for Sky to have found his new home through the power of social media and we ask the same compassion, advocacy, and dedication to all dogs, all breeds, all capabilities 🕊️🤍🍃,” they wrote.
