This world is filled with so much suffering that it is sometimes really hard to even think about it. Although we can see that at every corner, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs are the best examples.
The fact that many of these helpless creatures are abandoned and left to fend for themselves is heartbreaking. However, when we personally witness a dumped dog lying helplessly on the street, and when we also know that it was previously abused, it is even more difficult.
That’s exactly how one big-hearted woman felt when she found a poor abandoned dog in a desperate state.
Her heart couldn’t stop crying when she realized how difficult the fate of this furry being was.
Abandoned By Everyone
The Husky named Luna was heartlessly dumped by her owners in Cleveland, Texas. This poor girl tried to return to the house several times, but they would throw her out on the street again every time.
Although people from the neighborhood gave her some food, that wasn’t nearly enough for this poor girl to survive. Time passed, and she got thinner and thinner until, at some point, she became completely emaciated.
Then she just curled up and lay down in the mud, slowly losing hope that she would ever feel true love again. In such a terrible state, no one wanted to even look at her anymore, and she just awaited her end, alone and abandoned by everyone.
However, like a light at the end of the dark tunnel, a kind human appeared after she heard her cries and was determined to save her soul. She called Hoardin Huskies, a rescue organization from South Carolina, for help and they were soon on their way to that place.
These experienced people were aware of the difficulty of the situation right away, so they immediately transferred Luna to the Gulf Coast Animal Hospital in Houston, Texas.
They soon realized that her state was more than desperate, as she was extremely emaciated. However, they were determined to put a smile on this dog’s face again.
The Fight For Life
Because of the severity of her condition, the doctors decided to transport Luna to the Neighborhood Veterinary Centers in Nederland, Texas, where she would be under the supervision of the experienced Dr. Hanson.
With the help of good people, they successfully made the transport, and Luna was finally in safe hands. Yet, the doctor immediately informed them that this was her last hope and that, considering the situation, he could not guarantee anything.
Aside from the fact that Luna was extremely emaciated, she also couldn’t eat as she almost didn’t have any muscle in her body besides her tongue. Because of that, the doctors had to feed her through a tube.
The next day, Luna seemed to be getting better a little bit. She was finally able to eat some dog food and express her gratitude for everything these people had done for her.
Sadly, the joy of the people who accompanied her on this difficult journey was short-lived because bad news soon arrived. According to the tests, her body went up to a year of being malnourished and starved, and they were unsure of what damage that caused.
Despite all the hardships, they weren’t willing to give up on this girl, and Luna herself fought heroically to stay alive. At the same time, many people donated money for her treatment after hearing about her life story.
After numerous treatments and therapies that followed in the next few days, and Luna going through all this like a true brave warrior, everything indicated that she would successfully overcome all the difficulties.
Hope was truly as strong as a ray of sunshine behind a rain cloud. Sadly, the most terrible storm came soon after.
Final Moments Filled With Love
Encouraged by the fact that Luna’s condition was slowly improving, as well as by her incredible resilience, her guardian angels waited with optimism for the next test results of a full CT scan.
When the results finally arrived, they were more than satisfied because they found out that Luna was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis. Although this disease isn’t treatable, there are medications that can keep it under control!
Considering that they expected it to be a much worse disease, this was extraordinary news. They decided to subject Luna to the final tests and then start with the right therapy that would bring this dog to complete recovery.
However, that very morning, when they woke up with a smile on their faces planning to finally start giving her those life-saving drugs, like a bolt from the blue, the worst possible news hit them.
The head doctor, veterinarians, and especially the people who were with Luna in her most difficult moments could not stop crying over her lifeless body. Luna was no longer with them.
Although it was so hard to come to terms with that fact, there was one bright spot in this dark ending that had the potential to overcome the darkness with its light.
Luna did pass away, but she did not cross the rainbow bridge alone – all the good souls who accompanied her on her difficult life journey continued to live in her heart just as she remained forever in theirs.
