When dogs find themselves in helpless situations, they rely on human help and compassion.

A pup named Joy Bird needed the help of good humans more than ever before. After she got hit by a car, the canine was helplessly lying on the side of a road in St. Louis, Missouri.

Her eyes were full of fear as she looked at the passing cars, hoping that someone would finally notice her.

Although everyone ignored her, the sad pup kept believing that good people would come to her aid.

When the local police officers spotted a pup who was curled up on the side of the road, they immediately hit the brakes.

As soon as the canine, later named Joy Bird, saw them rushing to her aid, she breathed a sigh of relief. The help that she was hoping for had finally arrived.

In order to protect Joy Bird from the passing cars, the officers created a safe barrier.

After they called Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the compassionate people sat next to the canine. They stroked her and reassured her that everything would be alright.

Shortly afterward, the rescue team arrived at the scene. Their hearts became filled with sadness after they saw the most adorable eyes staring at them and pleading for help.

The team noticed that Joy Bird had a few cuts on her body and that she had difficulty moving her back legs.

The kind-hearted humans carefully picked the dog from the street and placed her in the car. They drove her to the veterinary clinic, where she received urgent medical attention.

They were relieved to discover that Joy Bird didn’t have severe injuries. She had a broken hip, and she was expected to fully recover.

“It is going to take her time to heal with lots of crate rest, but she should be able to make a full recovery in time,” SRSL wrote on  Facebook.

The medical staff comforted Joy Bird and tried to make her feel safe.

They scheduled her hip surgery for the next day.

After the pooch had a good night’s sleep, she felt more relaxed.

Her eyes didn’t look fearful anymore. Joy Bird began realizing that she was in good hands.

Fortunately, the canine’s surgery was successful, and she began recovering.

Since Joy Bird had been unable to use her back legs for some time, her human friends put her in a stroller and took her on walks.

Joy Bird loved spending time outdoors. Her face radiated from happiness. The adorable canine couldn’t stop smiling as she enjoyed feeling sunshine on her face.

“She loves going out in her stroller and feeling the sun. [She’s] such a sweet girl,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.

Owing to the amazing care of her best friends at the St. Louis rescue, Joy Bird felt a lot better. A few weeks after her surgery, she was ready to move into foster care.

Her fosters received her with open arms and covered her in cuddles.

She can’t wait to hug her humans tightly and give them all her unconditional love.
