Thanks to the dedicated efforts of serving officers from the New York Police Department, six innocent puppy lives were saved in Queens.
Found cruelly stuffed in a sack, which was tied shut by a woman who attempted to sell them, the pups were barely breathing. They were crammed in a small space on a hot weekend and were only minutes away from collapsing…
It Could’ve Been Fatal
On Saturday afternoon, NYPD officers were on a drive when they spotted a person trying to purchase a puppy from a woman in front of Dollar General.
After overhearing the conversation, the officers realized that the woman had five more puppies stuffed in a tiny sack next to her, and they immediately rushed into action.
They called for backup, and that’s when Officer Glickman arrived at the location.
“I tried my best to open up the top of the bag and this tiny little snout came through the top of the bag. I couldn’t get the rest of it open. I took my knife, cut the bag open and that’s when five other puppies came flooding out,” officer Glickman told Fox 5 NY.
The entire team of officers was left in total shock when they counted the total number of six puppies. They were overheating, lacking water, and barely breathing inside.
They rushed to get all of them out as soon as possible, as the puppies were only minutes away from the inevitable.
“Let’s get these dogs out of here. It’s so hot,” one of the officers was heard saying in the video recorded by a body camera.
Finally Safe
As soon as they had all of the puppies safe, the officers stuck around to provide them with water and care. The puppies finally got fresh air and were out of danger, but they needed to be transported to an adequate facility.
The officers contacted ASPCA in Manhattan, who took these weeks-old babies in. Even though they couldn’t adopt any of them before officially applying throughout the ASPCA application process, the officers took the liberty to name all of them.
Pinson, Mona Lisa, Faith, Red, Horton, and Sandy are now recovering from the traumatic experience in a safe environment. After being properly treated by the team, they will be ready for adoption.
In the meantime, the irresponsible woman will be charged with several counts of neglect, abuse, and injuring animals.
This heartbreaking story soon made headlines and caused thousands of reactions from dog lovers all over the country. Despite being shocked by this heartless doing, the people are extremely grateful for NYPD’s noble rescue efforts and care.
“Our job is to serve and protect and I feel like that day we protected the lives of the puppies,” one of the officers said for FOX 5 NY.
Hopefully, this brave sextet will soon find loving homes where they can truly discover the joys of being a dog.
